Subtle Power of Spiritual Abuse
Basically, I just wanted to make a thread to talk about how amazing this book is. It's helped many of us break with fundyism, and I've seen it recommended all over SFL.

RE: Subtle Power of Spiritual Abuse
Excellent book for those people who are confused about what is going on versus what they're being taught in legalistic churches.

RE: Subtle Power of Spiritual Abuse
It helped me break free from my church. He explained that the more time people devote to church the more they try to "rescue" their lost time by fixing it (which causes them to stay).
I realized I was doing that. So I set a date, broke me leaving into a set of small goals, and I was gone. |

I loved that book. I did not find it until after I left, but reading it was one of the most freeing experiences I'd ever felt.

RE: Subtle Power of Spiritual Abuse
It's a fantastic book...It was of great help to me by showing me that it wasn't "me", it was the leaderships ego. It was the book that got me interested in Counseling as a profession.

This one is on my shelf to be read next. I'm currently reading Boundaries. Not as good as VanVonderan's books, but I needed it. I will give a shout out to VanVonderan's "Tired of Trying to Measure Up" as one of the best books (hands down) that I have ever read. He puts it all into a nutshell and explains the problem and solution well. Helped me out of Fundayland.
