Politics a la Fundamentalism
I'm starting to see the Tea Party as nothing more than politics done in the style of Fundamentalism. Either that, or the Tea Party is to Fundamentalists what Sinn Fein is to the IRA.
I got this from a friend's wall in Facebook. Apparently the Tea Party now supports the abolition of integration in public schools. To the Fundy still caught up on interracial dating or other racist tendencies, this is pure gold. Errabundi Saepe, Semper Indubitanter |

RE: Politics a la Fundamentalism
I posted this link over in the blog a while back but it is worth the watch. Interviews of people at the Glenn Beck rally, most of whom were Tea Baggers. It's funny, I watch this and think they are talking about a different country than the one I live in. Enjoy:

Mounty...BADDABOOM! Great subject. From my humble perspective, the TP is nothing more than the political arm of Christian Fundamentalism...the revenge of the angry white man.

Yeah, they want to put the country back in the 50s; the 1850s!

RE: Politics a la Fundamentalism
I assume what the tea party looks like to you depends upon what the local tea party is like where you are or what you have seen of the tea party in the news. Because the local tea party where I am does not remind me of fundamentalists so much. I assume many local fundamentalists would support the tea party. But the local leader of the tea party movement has never mentioned religion to me or or any racist idea or any radical political view (unless you consider the standard tea party/republican line radical).
So I assume there are crazy people in the tea party but it would seem that there are crazy people in every political party/group. Maybe, I am seeing the minority and you are seeing the majority of the tea party. I don't know. we are all a little looney |

I agree. Don't believe the media hype about the Tea Party. The media are crazy to link the Tea Party movement with any crazy idea or group that pops up. They even tried to associate the AZ killer with the TP before the facts were out. There are a few loons out there that call themselves Tea Partiers, but they do not represent the 99.9% of Tea Partiers. To put it in fundy-speak, the three "fundamentals" of the Tea Party movement are: 1. Lower Taxes 2. Less Government 3. A return the Constitution. Anything above and beyond those three ideas, are each person's own opinion. In addition, there is no central "Tea Party". Each group that takes upon itself the name of "Tea Party" represents whatever that specific local group believes/does. Don't lump it all into one big pile. The fact of the matter is that there are a lot of us who are very angry WITH BOTH PARTIES for the way they have irresponsibly spent our money over the last 40 years, and encumbered future generations with insurmountable debt, while at the same time eating away at our personal freedoms and liberties with more and more government controls and regulations. Just because some racist redneck in NC wants to go back to segregation, does not mean the whole movement agrees with that. |
