That seems like a pretty good elaboration right there! Sleepy

RE: "Biblical Counseling" Movement
Hmmm, from what Jenn has told me and what I'm gathering from the crossfire chat here and my somewhat so-so knowledge of Nouthetic counseling...(Praise God....haymen?)

Nouthetic counseling, reduced to its essence, (as I've stated previously) is little more than an aggresive application of guilt and shame of (literally) biblical proportions. The "counselor" is not an advocate of the patient the way they are supposed to be, instead, the "counselor" is prosectuting legal counsel in place of the Holy Spirit. That said, this Professor Marzak's teaching style is saddled with the goal of forcing the student to accept this philosophy of counseling because (1) It uses the Bible and is originated by a Christian, therefore, it is a "Christian" philosophy. and (2) It forces four possible outcomes:
a. If a Christian, they accept the bullying as therapy and accept the counselors conclusions and lives what they believe is "happily ever after".
b. If a Christian, they don't accept (if they're smart) the biblically based bullying session and depart a heretic, marked for avoidance for the rest of their lives...praise God.
c. If they are not a Christian, they are forced to "accept" the gospel and become one of the clan; little do they know, their problems are just starting.
d. They come to the conclusion that the counselor, Pastor and Church are just this side of a cult and lays a patch of rubber as he or she exits the parking lot.

Not to mention, the "T-shirt" comment is a nice coercive touch to a young, already guilt laden mind to accept their way or the highway.

Just left Jay Adams website...He takes a very aggresive tone to his beliefs. The FAQ section joyfully and almost proudly answers his critics...I would pay attention to the reasons he doesn't believe in Personality theories, it's a gas.

Or his attitude towards a diagnosis of schizophrenia! http://www.nouthetic.org/nouthetic-couns...enics.html

I think everyone has at one time or another. The problem is, is that when you start denying that mental sickness exitsts and everything is jst a spiritual problem, then you've boxed yourself into a corner. Think about this (I hate to be so crass) but Jay has a LOT of interest vested in this who thing. People can SAY "money isn't the issue" but the moment you start selling a book, DVDs, schooling, etc., then money DOES become the issue.
