RE: Children in Suits
When I was six, I became an uncle. I was so looking forward to the responsibilities of uncle-dom because I knew at a young age, being an uncle was kind of a special thing.
I looked to my own uncles. Thy were successful in their fields. They smoked cigars. They wore nice clothes. So, my only request on becoming an uncle was to have an "uncle suit" (since I was too young for cigars and a career). Having that suit was an outward sign of all my uncle responsibilities. Unfortunately, I was dismissed in my newfound maturity for being "aw, too cute." But I wore my suit to church, proud that I was dressed like the men of the congregation. (It was a tan suit, as I recall. I think I remember being slightly disappointed it wasn't corduroy, with elbow patches.) The Ark was built by a lone amateur, and the Titanic was built by an impressive group of professionals. |
