Cake Wreck

Cake Wreck
I decided to wax creative and bake a cake today. As the cake was in the oven, I idly wondered why the eggs were still on the counter. Then it hit me- they were supposed to be in the cake.

The cake rose a little bit, but didn't hold together at all. I mixed it with the chocolate frosting (which was also homemade) and put it in a pan. It tastes good but looks like what it is- a disaster. I'm going to open a bottle of wine and nurse my wounded pride.

RE: Cake Wreck
Egg-free cakes? Doesn't sounds so bad. It's hard to "ruin" chocolate, even if it doesn't look right.

And for some reason, this country's national defense trusts me to fix airplanes. Hopefully there's no part in the sky missing it's 'eggs'.

As long as it tastes good, who cares what it looks like? If it tastes good, it's a success. Tongue You made a real cake, not a fundie cake. Tongue

RE: Cake Wreck
You can always add mayo if you forget eggs, or just add mayo to make it moister and fluffier. But, being pregnant that cake looks very yummy. If I hadn't taken a Unisom I would bake a cake tonight, but I fear falling asleep and leaving the oven on.

RE: Cake Wreck
I have a recipe for an actual egg-free cake if anyone wants it. It won't look like that, promise!

RE: Cake Wreck
Because of food allergies, my youngest had to eat egg free, gluten free cake for his first birthday. It didn't look like that...Big Grin

BUT...I would totally eat that. Seems like some ice cream would go nicely with it.

RE: Cake Wreck
First cake I made by myself (about 12, I think), I remembered the eggs, and flour, and everything; except the baking soda. Came out 1" tall and denser than a (insert fundy joke here). And then, when I first got married: I had been a cook at a camp, and had a great recipe for chocolate chip cookies. My husband came home one day to find cookies on every available flat surface in our tiny apartment cause I couldn't figure out how to reduce the measurements. I'm much better now Smile

RE: Cake Wreck
I need to avoid this thread. I come here and start craving cake, but I don't have the energy to bake one right now.

Now for my cake wreck story. I agreed to make a 3D sitting Winnie the Pooh cake for my step-sisters baby shower. I made 3 cakes and all three had epic failures, one the head fell off, another oozed out the sides of the cake pan, not even sure what happened to cake number 3. I finally went with a star cake and had my then 5 year old held decorate it. Came out super cute, just not my original plan.
