Poll: Have you read the whole bible?
Yes, 66 books.
Pretty much. -minus a few chapters here and there.
I start in earnest every Jan 2nd, then die mid-March in the begats.
The Gospels, Acts, Romans, a few Psalms, and a bit here and there.

Have you read the whole Bible?
Having participated in many a discussion about KJVOnly or not, 66 or 79 books and much more, I was inspired by this entry in Jeri's blog: http://jeriwho.net/lillypad2/?p=1733 to ask this question.

I'm curious because I believe we have a better than average group of Christians in this forum.

For every difficult and complicated question there is an answer that is simple, easily understood and wrong." H.L. Mencken

RE: Have you read the whole Bible?
I wanted to say "Yes, 66 books" but my scrupulosity keeps me from saying so since I'm not 100% positive. I know I've never made it through in a year from Genesis to Revelations (I always DID get stuck in the begats or the endless numbers in Numbers). But I've read through every book at different times in my life so the more I think about it, I probably could have said yes.

"Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan.

I have read all 73 books in the Bible. Wink

RE: Have you read the whole Bible?
I've read it through several times in my KJV, but more because I felt pressured to than because I really wanted to. I once did it in 3 months because of pressure that "every Christian should have read through the Bible at least once, but only once is pretty miserable".

RE: Have you read the whole Bible?
I remember hearing Tony Hutson emphasize reading your Bible through. 4 times on 4 separate occasions that I have been present he has told people in the crowd to stand up (raise hands once, during part of invitation when everyone was standing) if they have never read the Bible from cover to cover. Talk about being embarrassed. After the 3rd time, I read the Bible through so that I wouldn't have to go through it again.

RE: Have you read the whole Bible?
I have read the Bible, which is one of the reasons I asked so many annoying questions as a teenager.
Although I'm pagan now, I still read it occasionally. The Bible was never what I had a problem with. It was the people who were supposed to be the ones teaching it.

That's really embarrassing. I'll never understand why people put up with the shenanigans of some pastors and evangelists.

RE: Have you read the whole Bible?
I picked the NT + Psalms option, as I'm pretty sure I've read all of the New Testament, at one point or another, but never on a schedule. I know I've read all of Psalms, Genesis, Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes (this actually used to be/is my favorite book of the Bible), Ruth, Jonah, and maybe Esther. I've tried the year-long Bible reading schedule and I'd get stuck in the begats... in Genesis.

Also, I memorized the whole book of II Peter and most of Colossians when I was a teen - we had a ton of Bible/discipleship competitions in our youth group. I would be curious to see a similar poll on memorization of books and verses.

Ugh, I always hated the pressure to read the entire Bible. I remember the looks of distain I would get when I said I didn't.

RE: Have you read the whole Bible?
Have read the KJV through, I think twice with my family, using a 1-year bible, a very good way to read it all the way through. Gives you some OT, some NT, a proverb, and some Psalms for daily reading, about 15-20 mins a day. Also read the NAS all the way through.

Those begats do get old, forgive me Lord!
