Fundies have invaded network television...
I was watching an episode of Star Trek: Enterprise, and the ship was taken over by a group of religious people who were fighting a war against the rest of their species. They were arguing over how many days it took "The Maker" to create their planet.
My personal favorite line came from the manogawd (or manomaker, I guess) when one of his followers was attempting to disagree. "You believe I speak for the Maker, right? Then to question me is to question the Maker." The episode is called "Chosen Realm" if you're interested. "The phoenix hope, can wing her way through desert skies, and still defying fortune's spite; revive from ashes and rise." Cervantes |

I've seen that episode. Amusing stuff. Star Trek (I'm fairly certain both the Rodenberry & Berman varieties) were highly anti-religous classic atheistic progressivist. Like the idea that capitalism (and all other ideologies) will just fade away for a just & peaceful society due to the unstoppable march of historic progress is pretty much as absurd as the idiotic fundies they mock. I still love those shows (except DS9, it sucked. Voyager was kind of meh, but OK).

Oh, and UPN may technically have been a network, but it's hard to call Voyager "network television".

I'll take 7 of 9, and much more so T'Pol over Dax 8 days a week.

More depictions of cults (fundies?) on TV -
- Dollhouse, episode "True Believer": a cult is a front for an ex-felon-turned-MOg to store firearms. Nice scenes with singing "Leaning On The Everlasting Arms" and stories of Esther and Daniel - Veronica Mars, episode "Drinking the Kool-Aid" - this one was about a hippie commune, but the title reminds me of a few handles on this board. |
