RE: Promoting Revival/Preparing for the Judgment
As far as having to confront people that you feel have something against you, Proverbs 19:11 says, "A man's wisdom gives him patience; it is to his glory to overlook an offense." I think the New Testament tells us what to do if we know we are purposefully living in antagonism to someone. We MUST reconcile; we must live in love. But I think the Bible allows us to forgive and overlook an offense and not have to dredge up everything to everyone. How inappropriate would it be, for example, for a teen guy to go to a teen girl and tell her he'd been lusting about her? Or an adult male to confess that to a young teenage girl? It just wouldn't be right.
Regarding the initial post saying you should list individual sins to confess, then go over the list 2 or 3 times to keep thinking of more sins. How introspective must one be? I could see myself in a total panic up at 4:00 in the morning going over the list for the 102nd time, nitpicking over more sins I kept thinking of. Then you could also throw in the teachings of some about confessing generational sin: looking into your family background and confessing THEIR sins. (If they were into the occult, you must repudiate it or it will cause oppression in your life, for example.) How bad could THAT get - start listing your family's sins and then go over THAT list 2 or 3 or more times coming up with MORE sin. AAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGHHH!!!!! I like the story Jesus told of the Pharisee and the publican who went to the temple to pray: the latter prayed, "Lord, be merciful to me, a sinner!" No long lists. Same with the thief on the cross. And the Philippian jailor: "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved." It doesn't say, "And list all your specific sins." Of course the original post was about revival not salvation, but I still don't see any verses supporting his idea of morbid introspection. "Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan. |

That really helps. |
