There are some awesome teachers at PCC, but the lack of accreditation makes the degrees almost worthless. The constant attention you have to give to the external standards (dress, habits, etc) left me exhausted. I was SO happy when I finished and never had to return to the "box" I didn't fit in. I do feel I got a good education...too bad no one else recognizes that due to the accreditation issue.

PCC isn't as militant as HAC. If I could only choose between those 2 schools, I'd recommend PCC over HAC.

I agree with this post, and would never send my kids to PCC (and definitely not HAC, either) for the same reasons. I had terrible trouble getting most graduate schools and certain potential employers to recognize my PCC degree. PCC is actually now in the process of obtaining TRACS accreditation, which is somewhat better than no accreditation at all, but still not great. They have also lost many of their best instructors over the last five years or so, and much of their current faculty is made up of former PCC students who also got their gradutate degrees from PCC. So if you're concerned about academics (which you should be if you're considering college Smile), PCC is not the best option; but it's better than HAC.

Pardon my ignorance - there are some aspects of fundyland that I do not regret missing out on. I'm also from CA, which has a very extensive state school system, and from a background where going to an elite school is the norm. So I don't know what college/university options are like outside of here. But if you are concerned at all about academics, finding employment, etc., why would you ever consider PCC, HAC, or similar others? I don't really understand the rationale for choosing a religious-themed school, or unaccredited schools, unless you're pretty sure you want to go into ministry.

Because in standard Fundamentalism we were all taught that at secular schools they were "fornicatin' in the hallways" so we couldn't go there or we would risk losing our religion. And "liberal" Christian colleges (like Liberty) were even worse. (I think they were afraid we would end up Evangelical. Funny that how many of us are actually Presbyterian or worse.) Wink

I can't speak for everyone, but naivete (plus misleading advertising by PCC) was a big reason why I went there. I didn't know anything about accreditation or why it would matter, and I didn't find out until after graduating. I also thought that the college would have high academic standards because their K-12 (A Beka) curriculum, which I used in high school, was excellent. (PCC's academics weren't bad, by the way, and some of their programs were better than others; but overall, it wasn't nearly as challenging as I expected. But, as I mentioned before, it's gone downhill in the last five years or so, since they've lost most of their best teachers.)

Well, I guess they make a good point. At my school, it was an unofficial tradition for people to go streaking in the library during finals. Tongue

Yeah, well while we were told (on occasion) about those stories, when I say we were led to believe they were "fornicatin' in the hallways", I mean, we were led to believe that you probably would have to step over at least one couple doing the horizontal tango each and every time you made your way to your dorm room. The residence halls (according to the mental pictures painted) were full of moans, sweat, and nakedness.

And, no, I don't know any fundy teen who is now grown and will be honest with themselves who didn't at least want to go for a semester to see if it was true first hand. Big Grin

Even more off-topic but I'm curious. Since a lot of you are ex-fundies or at least not as entrenched in fundamentalism as before - would you still want to attend a Christian university? Or consider letting/encouraging your kids to go? How about if it's accredited and reasonably academic?

Fascinating. I've always heard about bad roommate stories - for example, you share a bedroom with a roommate and your roommate is always bringing in guys to have sex with without warning you in advance. But, like I said, those are the bad roommate stories, it's really not common courtesy to have sex orgies in the halls. The more common occurrence/disturbance was the prevalence of drinking and drugs.
