When I was a kid, there was an urban legend at church. It was a mix of the LSD-laced tattoo and Turmoil in the Toybox "cartoons are demonic" kind of nonense. People at church started saying that cartoon temporary tattos in cereal boxes were laced with LSD in order to control young minds.

So... was it only in my church group?

I heard that from my middle school principal right before Halloween of 1984. It was a public middle school, so I don't think it was restricted to Turmoil in the Toybox people.

Yup, heard that one. It was going around about the same time they were "kidnapping blonde-haired, blue-eyed kids to be sacrificed to satan".

I heard it when I was going through public school, too. I think it was probably a fairly common urban legend, BUT I think maybe fundies are more susceptible to latching onto things like this because of the conspiracy theory nature of it plus the "they're trying to corrupt our squeaky clean kids" aspect of it.

My fundy grandma thought that getting "Runner's High" was a sin. Seriously, she told us the evils of exercising just to get "high".
