This has always been a bone of contention with me. I’ve even spoken with officials of some evangelistic ministries about this. How many people attended the rallies? How many more viewed the program on Christian TV station? Both of these are estimates. How many souls were saved? (Estimate.) How many came forward? (Some documentation.) How many names/phone numbers were collected by the counselors up front?

Here is where it gets interesting:

After that moment of Ineffable Grace, how many of those people were called back? How many attended a church within the next two weeks? How many continued going to church three months after the fact and six months after the fact?

How many of those who made a decision for Christ are attending a Church a year after the fact?
(BTW, I know… “church attendance” is not necessarily a good indicator of a transformed heart…)

While the statistics for that are, again, only estimates, they are pretty dismal. The RoI (return on Investment,) is really bad.

When I see the millions of dollars that someone like Benny Hinn rakes in from one rally, and you divide it by the number of “souls” still in church a year later, turns out anyone of us could think of better uses for that money.

It took me a few minutes to find where you got that quote. Now I see it is from Dennis Corle of Revival Fires. When I was in ministry, a pstor who had been gone for 15 years before me had a lifetime subscription to Revival Fires so it came every other week.

I would peruse it now and then and read Dennis Corle's stories about preaching in many churches. And his stastistics came from pastors reporting to him how many salvation decisions they had at the altar. But we all know that guys like him come into a little church and try to get people to think that they really aren't saved. So they get them down the aisle to make a decision, and Dennis Corle gets to brag, saing that "5 were saved, 3 made rededications, 8 decisions for baptism and 4 committed to become active in the bus ministry."

It was in every issue. And all his wife has to do is look at all the old issues and add the numbers up so he can brag some more.

And he bragged how tired he always was. "caught a flight at tired o'clock and got home by 6am the next day. Slept a couple hours and was on the road again by 2pm." More bragging about how hard he works for souls. I can't believe I wasted my time reading it so many times.

By the way, this is from his "College" accreditation link

Accreditation

Revival Fires! Baptist College does not seek the approval or accreditation of the non-Christian academic world. However, we do have the recognition of virtually all of the fundamental Baptist colleges in America. Credits earned from Revival Fires! Baptist College are widely accepted for transfer by the aforementioned schools.

Makes me want to send my kids there, how about you? *Sarcasm off*

Especially with the big rallies, the disconnect comes when the new convert tries to plug in to a local church.

What the convert finds out is that his decision that night at the rally was for naught. Whatever church he goes to has their own list of requirements, many times looks at these new converts with suspicion, and they all speak their own version of Christianese wich takes years to dominate.

I lvied in Battle Creek, Mi for 7 years. Before I was there, the pastor of the church I attended had some evangelist preach. He told this guy that Battle Creek was a hard town. This guy reported that to Jack Hyles. SO, Hyles sends two bus loads of college students to town to "win souls" on a Saturday. They claimed over 500 were saved. The pastor got all those names and set out in the next months to follow up on them. Many of them were Chinese who did not understand a word of English. Some were people who were already Christians and were talked into saying a prayer of re-dedication.. Many were non-existent, addresses that were non-existent. When it was all said and done, not one was found with a credible profession or attending a church who was not already saved.

The claim of over 500 saved was a joke. And I bet they bragged about it for months.
