Bible Reading Plans

RE: Bible Reading Plans
My parents follow their fundy church's reading program religiously. They never understood why I would want to read the Bible at my own pace and in whatever portions I wanted. Not that I was a faithful reader...I was made to feel guilty about that, too!

RE: Bible Reading Plans
Quote:A few OT chapters, flip over and catch a few NT chapters, then a couple of Psalms and one chapter in Proverbs."

I felt that way when I first started this plan, as it jumps around a lot. But the Sunday readings are separated from the "regular" readings and they relate to the Christian liturgical calendar. It's actually been refreshing because sometimes I read the prophesy and then I read the fulfillment of it in one sitting.

Quote:Those read-the-Bible-in-one-year plans always bugged me because they seemed like a contrived way to accomplish something that would otherwise be difficult or unpalatable.

You're totally right. They confuse "reading" with "studying".

Quote:I still can't use the 1611 - give me the Fundy twitches.
Me too. Sad I have an ESV, but it's so similar that I can't read it yet without flashbacks. Maybe when I'm more fundy-de-toxed it will be easier.

RE: Bible Reading Plans
I bought this last year and I love it: http://www.christianbook.com/niv-one-yea...ew=details Every day you read portions of the OT, NT, Psalms, and Proverbs. I started reading it every day and fell off the wagon, so I'm trying again this year. But the difference between now and my fundy days is that I no longer have the exercise of reading my Bible turned into a guilt-fest. If I miss a day, I don't start wondering if maybe I'm not saved. I don't even make up for it unless I have extra time and really want to. Most of the time I just go on to the next day. The Bible tells me that reading it is profitable; it does not say I am a terrible Christian if I skip a day of readings. =)

No, you'll just shrink, shrink, shrink...

Why do I find myself on the floor right now?

Flying a plane is no different than riding a bicycle, just a lot harder to put baseball cards in the spokes.

RE: Bible Reading Plans
I follow the liturgical readings for the year. Like was stated the OT, a Psalm, a reading from one of the Epistles and a Gospel reading.

O Beauty ever ancient, O Beauty ever new;
you, the mirror of my life renewed,
let me find my life in you.~St. Augustine
