My former fundy pastor said that a lot.

But having a bunch of ridiculous, over-controlling rules - which defy logic and can never be adequately explained biblically - will also lead to rebellion - even if you spend time trying to build a relationship. This is because legalism is poison. It robs the relationship of all grace.
