RE: $#!7 My IFB Pastor Says....
Jesus kept talking about a kingdom. His disciples apparantly thought he meant an actual earthly kingdom in which He would overthrow the Romans and bring Israel back to its former glory and more. Of course, that wasn't why Jesus had come to earth: He came to die for our sins, but God's promises to David that of his kingdom there would be no end have yet to be fulfilled so we do believe God's kingdom will be realized someday. Dispensationalists believe that kingdom will come after the Rapture and the tribulation, during the Millennium where Christ will rule and reign on the earth. The problem is when they take all the teaching that Jesus did and say, "This no longer applies because we're not in the kingdom age. We're in the church age." Thus they often do focus more on what Paul had to say to the church than on what Jesus had to say about the kingdom.
Please ask more if I haven't clarified what I meant! ![]() Although actually, I think I'm hijacking this thread. Maybe we should start another one about the kingdom of God, whether it is now or ONLY in the future, and if fundy churches tended to emphasize Jesus over Paul. "Do not look so sad. We shall meet soon again.” “Please, Aslan,” said Lucy, “what do you call soon?” “I call all times soon,” said Aslan. |
