RE: $#!7 My IFB Pastor Says....
Just this morning, "Calvinism is spreading throughout and infecting our churches."
I guess Calvinism is one of the worst things that a Christian can believe. It's not like the Father of Modern Missions, William Carey, believed in that.....oh, he did? "Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does." |

RE: $#!7 My IFB Pastor Says....
Well, not my (former) IFB pastor, but one of the last speakers we had in preached about "soul-winning", and nearly said that one wasn't a Christian unless one went door-to-door pestering people about getting a free trip to heaven. He said those that don't do so are under a curse.
That if you haven't made any sales (er, seen any saved) in the last year or longer, it is a crying shame, and you need to hit the altar. The "altar call" was an exercise in trying to get people to come forward - people were strongly influenced to come down: "If God spoke to your heart, then come forward. If you aren't coming, then I can only assume that God didn't speak to your heart and you should probably check out your salvation when you get home." Filled my guilt cup to full and overflowing and helped me decide to leave that church. __________________________ ... what does the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? |

RE: $#!7 My IFB Pastor Says....
Ever since I left my IFB church almost 2 years ago, I don't have as much fodder for this thread. Which is good because I'm not under the umbrella anymore... and bad because I don't have anecdotes to share with y'all. Hm... I *could* listen to services from my former IFB church online..

Off the record, on the QT and very hush-hush |

RE: $#!7 My IFB Pastor Says....
My sister's fundie preacher (she's out of there now) once told his congregation that having closet doors was bad b/c no one should have any place in their house that was secret or hidden. So my sister and her husband took all their closet doors off!!!! I'm really glad, too, because I know that my then-toddler nieces and nephews probably had piles of porn, rock music, and NIV Bibles in their closets!!
