RE: Origins of the United States, as we know it
(04-26-2011 09:54 AM)The Singular Observer Wrote: "Origin of the US of A?", he asks. "Rebellion against your God-ordained King that is, you rebllious separatists! That makes a bunch of heathen by definition!", he answers, while making a bee-line for the exit. On a serious note, the awareness of this has been minimized by renaming it as "The War for Independence" instead of using the traditional "American Revolution". My history of this period is a bit rusty. Does anyone know what the "Founding Fathers" called the rebellion? |

RE: Origins of the United States, as we know it
Since when did Christians seek to nationalize and legalize their faith? Muslims have nations. The Catholic hiarchy has nations. Jesus made no attempt to organize His people into a nation.
Christians ought to stick with building Christ-centered gatherings and lives that serve as a light to their communities instead of revising history to make all the founding fathers appear to be Jesus/Baptist/Bible loving Christians. Pilgrims may have initially had a small Christian community. The founders may have been influenced by Baptist thoughts on religious freedom. There were many influences that went into making this nation. Chrsitian historians are often guilty of oversimplification and majoring on minor Christian contributions. Christians need to stop acting like the US use to be a Christian nation, then it somehow changed. No sir. We call that Mr. Coffee. |

Preach it, Brother. 8)

Baptist preachers need to wake up from Lala-land, stop revising history and admit with humility that European Protestants, just like the Medieval Catholic Crusaders and Inquisitors, have committed a great atrocity against the native peoples of our continent. Has the Lord used this evil for good? Most certainly! However, they have to admit that the founding fathers did not have pure motives. This means that the A Beka History books need to be revised. For the record, I hated Abeka books growing up and thought they were phony when I was 12. Quote:Yes. I think most here would agree that horrible things were done and the guys weren't perfect. And like Donb123 said, if we're going to be honest we need to be honest about the whole issue. "European Protestants" may have killed a lot of Native Americans, but the real culprits for their demise was the Spanish. They started an epidemic during their conquer of Mexico that killed 90% of Native Americans. Most Native Americans were already dead before the Pilgrims even got here. And South American countries are still trying to exterminate the indigenous peoples. Why do WASPs keep getting the whole blame for this? “If dandelions were hard to grow, they would be most welcome on any lawn.” -Andrew V. Mason |
