Jack Schaap... Why so hated?
Forgive me, but I have been coming here for less then a year, and have been attending a church for about the same amount of time. My question is why is Jack Schaap so hated? A simple google search will return nothing but negative things.
This is MY OPINION... In the meetings I have had with Jack (one in my home and the others in the church) he is one of the nicest people that I have ever met. He seems sincere and really seems to care about people. I have been trying to figure this out by reading everything I can about him but am lost. Maybe you guys/gals can shed some light on this for me. |

RE: Jack Schaap... Why so hated?
Oh he's definitely a NICE person when you chat with him in person on good terms. He's got quite a "charisma" about him that those in his church are drawn to. My parents watched his online broadcast for a long time right as they were getting out of Fundamentalism...until they realized some things he taught were just a load of crap.
Many fundys out there are quite polished on the outside and work VERY hard to draw new "prospects" into their control (ministry). ![]() Don't be the fool that gets sucked into that mess or someday you'll really regret it (like most of us here). Fundamentalism no longer has a hold on me - I'm free! ![]()

He's got really creepy views on marital sex being like communion -- or is communion like sex? I forget which is like which, but it's definitely creepy.

RE: Jack Schaap... Why so hated?
I don't agree with him 100% of the time, as anyone with half a brain will never agree with anyone 100% of the time, but I just take it with a grain of salt. I read about stuff all the time, but I have not seen anything that would raise a red flag yet. Before I commit to anything I like to research it and this is one of those areas that it's tough to research about (Simple reason most people who post about it are not happy and skew the results). I have been told by several people here to watch my daughter (she is 8) and be careful. My story is complicated but in a nutshell my wife passed away a few years ago and since joining I feel like I have a family again, and my daughter loves going for the "Girl time" as she has no mother figure in her life. My son likes going because him and the pastor (not Jack) are close (I am close with him too we always play xbox together).
I am just trying to figure out why so many people don't like Jack, there HAS to be a reason other then I don't agree with him. |

I have a pretty open mind and can usually see someone elses point of view.. but that I couldn't wrap my head around.... Maybe that's why the book is out of print now. |

RE: Jack Schaap... Why so hated?
"Hated" isn't the right word. Those who speak against him do so because he teaches false doctrine.
One doctrine already alluded to here is his view that taking Communion/Lord's Supper/Lord's Table is equal to having sex with God. His belief is that a Christian received Christ's body in the same way a woman receives her husband's body. "Psalm 119:30 says, "I have chosen the way of truth: thy judgments have I laid before me." That word laid is a sexual term which literally means the same thing as a man laying with a woman. God was saying that God's laws should be as intimate as a marriage partner in a sexual liaison." Marriage The Divine Intimacy, Hyles Publications 2005. Page 44 pp2 "In the next verse, David gets more graphic. "I have stuck unto thy testimonies: O LORD, put me not to shame." that word stuck means "the act of a man entering his wife"; it is sexual intercourse. God says that the Word of God should be the Christians lover, and nothing should be closer to him than the Bible. The Words of God are supposed to be the most intimate lover of his life." Marriage The Divine Intimacy, Hyles Publications 2005. Page 44 pp3 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0976424...0976424762 And that is just one small portion of his nonsense. |

Well, the watch your daughter comment is probably because there have been a fair number of abuse cases reported within the Hyles network of churchs. Be the change you wish to see in the world. -Gandhi |

Good to have you back. ![]() Jack seems to "have it all together" and certainly has an answer for everything you could ask him about. He's polite, friendly, and even comical in some cases but beware of his controlling tendencies and doctrines. It's very good that you're investigating things that he says or teaches. Fundamentalism (from the outside) appears to be just the right thing for people and is well prepared to suck a family right into its "ministry". The problems arise when you don't "assimilate" well or perhaps begin to question teachings or "authority" placed over you. Children often ignorantly trust folks, especially in a church environment thus are the MOST susceptible to indoctrination. Would you believe that my church turned their children on their parents if they labeled their parents as "heathen"? It almost worked on me at one point. Jack is the master of manipulation within the IFB and he's VERY good at how he approaches it! Don't buy into the smiles and handshakes...believe me when I tell you they'll be gone faster than a welfare check if you end up on the "rebel" list. Fundamentalism no longer has a hold on me - I'm free! ![]()

Yes, that!!! ^^^ That group has an inordinate amount of such cases. You really should heed the warning and, quite simply, go find another church. Besides the heresy, you won't be getting anything more from there than fluffy, shallow, pathetic teaching and a whole lot of screeching. |
