When Lyndon Johnson signed the Voting Rights act a shift began. The conservative (let's keep the black people in their place) Democrats began switching parties. They pretty much changed places by the time Regan took office.

Minorities such as Blacks (and Cherokee Indians btw) were Republicans during that time The Cherokees were Republican because the Democratic Party was the party of Andrew Jackson. Blacks were Republican because it was the party of Abraham Lincoln but that does not hold true today.

When I was young I remember wondering why my family was Republican when everyone around us were Democrats. That should tell you a little bit about the history of my family.

And like I mentioned in a different thread the other day, neocons have taken over the Republican party and Progressives have taken over the Democratic party so nobody can argue that the parties are the same, NOR can they suggest that their roles flipped. They're both completely different.
