It's been on for how long? And I'm sure other students watch it off campus, too. But this is the first time BJ has given demerits for it? Talk about selective enforcement! What they don't realize is that the rulebook doesn't say, "Thou shalt not watch Glee" or have a list of programs or types of programs you can and can't watch. It says, in effect, "Thou shalt not watch anything we would find inappropriate, but we won't tell you what's inappropriate until after we give you the demerits." BJ students' response is particularly telling. Many of them say, "I break the rules all the time, and get away with it. If you're dumb enough to be caught, you deserve to be punished." If Bob put an RA in their room with the purpose of expelling them, they would rack up 150 D's faster than Chris did. I don't know ... maybe the fact that he organized a student protest and a protest page over the cover-up of rape and sexual abuse at BJU? No, that couldn't possibly have been it. It MUST have been Glee. |

Definitely had to be Glee. They just adore students who question their authority. Definitely wasn't that whole silly cover up thing. (note sarcasm) The way it always was, is no longer good enough. I was at MBBC and saw it over and over. It makes me sick the way they deal with things that they "think" are sin, but have no basis in the Bible. That whole vague rule thing is ridiculous. Or, you know, it could be lucrezaborgia's spell she cast...... or Glee. |

RE: Christopher Peterman Expelled from BJU
I'm not surprised so many people who are unacquainted with BJU actually think all the rules are in the rule book. I'm also surprised so many people at BJU deny evolution. Every week, every dorm meeting, every chapel lecture the rule monster evolves based on the tightness of the knot in someone's shorts that day. It was especially frustrating as a town students, when some snot-nosed, self-important APC/PC would chase you down in the hallway of the Alumni building to yell at you about some unknown-to-you rule, and say "Weren't you in dorm meeting last night?!" After the same girl did that to me a couple times, I was like "I have told you before, I am a town student. Town students don't go to dorm meetings. How do you expect me to know about something that's said in a meeting I'm not supposed to be in?" It's not hard for me to have sympathy for Chris. It's entirely possible to go there 4 or 6 years and not know all the rules. It's also entirely possible to do your best to keep the rules, and think you're doing that, and have forgotten one, two, or 10, just because of the sheer number of rules.

It's also entirely possible to do your best to keep the rules, and think you're doing that, and have forgotten one, two, or 10, just because of the sheer number of rules. Case in point: I was NEVER a dorm student. One evening my town student boyfriend and I were walking on the sidewalk that leads to Mack library, It was after 7 pm. We were asked what we were doing together here. I said, "we are going to the library." My boyfriend and I were both standing there with the most puzzled looks on our faces! It was a faculty member, don't remember who, that said, "no couples are allowed to be together out here after 7 pm unless, in the DP or snack shop." So, we had to walk separated the rest of the way to the library!!!!f I kept laughing and asking the faculty member if they were kidding. He kept saying "no, I'm not kidding" and I kept smirking and laughing. He was not amused and he was shocked that we didn't know!! It was so stupid and awkward. So, from then on we could drive in the same car from our respective homes TO the library. But once we stopped out of the car, we couldn't walk IN together! So, yes, it is completely possible for a "townie" to unknowingly break "dormie" rules. It's incredulous. I've been chased down the hall bc of my slit being an inch to high. I've been chased and yelled at bc I grabbed my boyfriends arm when I was laughing, because sometimes people DO naturally touch one another when talking. This is what makes life there unbearable. You can't even be normal when talking. It's all stoicism and poise and appropriately placed laughter. It's weird. |

RE: Christopher Peterman Expelled from BJU
I wads dorm student 2.5 years and a (married) town student 1 year. I got way more demerits that last year. I knew the rules, but I didn't care--skipped a few classes and chapel.
