Never a Fundy, but I can tell I worked at Fundy school when...

...painting my toe nails a teal color feels rebellious.
...I instinctively hide all CDs and their cases in my car.
...running into former students in a restaurant when I have a glass of wine in front of me gives me a flash of paranoia.
---I worry about wearing flip flops to church being offensive even though half of the congregation is wearing them.

My principal called me in and said that my said my nails were "too red". I could wear only "natural reds and pinks". (BTW it was "Not really a waitress" red from OPI, which I still love!)

I sat through an hour and a half staff meeting once that was entirely devoted to debating appropriate nail polish colors. Greens, blues, purples, silver, golds and such were immediately dismissed. Arguments ensued over if there are appropriate red shades. One camp was in favor of only pastel pinks and peaches. The whole controversy started over girls wearing polish in the school colors (blue and gold) for homecoming week.

People can be so stupid. Nail polish is supposed to be fun.

I could care less what colors people wear. The popular thing here seems to be black tips; I think it looks gross, but it's their choice.

I've always been baffled at what "natural pinks and reds" was supposed to mean. I'm pretty sure you can find any shade and tone of pink and red in nature....

What is the reasoning? Do they think that if guys see red nail polish, they'll be tempted to lust?

Oh, and I could give a rip what color nail polish or lipstick a woman wants to wear, whether its red, black, purple or gold flecks. Whatever they like is ok with me.

Some of the rationale was that certain colors would draw too much attention to them. We had to be concerned about why the girls wanted attention on their nails. And we were having this discussion in Nebraska in the middle of fall heading into winter...so we were talking about their fingers not even their toes.

I also recall that the loudest advocate for pastels only brought up that the color red was indicative of prostitution. Yes. Seriously. Red nail polish might mean you are a prostitute.

Yes! This was the argument here too. And of course black was goth. We also had a rule that all fingers must be the same color and only one color so when the girls did flags (stripes with a star) for memorial day, they all got written up the next day. Each teacher was supposed to keep nail polish remover in their desk in case there was a violation.
