RE: Things that HACK ME OFF!
Today. Today really hacks me off. And I'm cranky about it. And I'm at the shops and it's payday. Not a good combination.

Removing Kony will do NOTHING without a sustained and long-term presence in the region. I guess since we were so successful with Iraq and Afghanistan these hipsters behind Invisible Children think we can do it again...oh...wait...

^This.

So very much this.

Also, that I think my husband is dismantling the faucet in our only bathtub. If I cannot shower when I come home from dance class tonight, I will not be happy. It was recently PROPERLY repaired. But heaven forbid that our bathroom faucets work properly. We much prefer them to be totally screwed up. That's why we have to turn the one on the sink to a magical spot halfway between hot and cold and wait ten minutes for lukewarm water. And we certainly wouldn't want to have that repaired. Because it works if you find the spot and wait. And that's all we need!

It makes me wonder about the timing. This has been going on for years so why release it in the middle of Election season? Why now? Nothing on this scale is done by accident. What is the payoff?

RE: Things that HACK ME OFF!
I get that removing the leader will do nothing long-term in the region. But at the same time, if there was a mass murderer running around free you'd think we'd have enough compassion for the victims to want him to be held personally responsible for what he's done.

And, yes, I agree that the sudden interest in the issue is probably politically motivated. It's sad when peoples' suffering matters for nothing except political manoeuvring.

Eh, the people behind the viral project probably have been planning on this for a while so they can capture the fervor of wanna-be presidents. They favor military intervention even though that has been proven over and over and over to not get rid of the LRA.

I don't think anyone is advocating we do absolutely nothing. It's untrue that the US government has been ignoring this and helping Uganda and surrounding countries has been a priority, albeit not at the level of intervention that groups like Invisible Children would like. The sad fact tho is that the LRA, while horrible, isn't the worst in the region. They are actually bit players in a much larger clusterfuck. Get rid of Kony at this point and you have a bunch of smaller groups scattering to the other major conflicts in the area with the most likely area the newly created South Sudan which absolutely does not need their interference at this time.

Scrarch that, he's not even in Uganda anymore and the LRA is no where near the main problem in the region: http://blog.foreignpolicy.com/posts/2012...ted_things

Here are some more!

http://texasinafrica.blogspot.com/2009/0...ocacy.html

I am really loathe to support the "we must do SOMETHING" advocacy that attacks anyone who does not support that ambiguous 'something'. It's not always better to do something and we have to really think about how we go about doing things before blindly tossing help around.

This blog and the comments go into that more than I can: http://www.wrongingrights.com/2009/05/no...wyers.html

Women who keep big bowls in the sink as a "mini sink".

People who think they have to wash dishes BEFORE putting them in the dishwasher. (I'm not talking about removing dried-on food, I'm talking about WASH with soap.)

Idiot teens who think it's funny to crisscross right in front of your moving car while riding their bikes.

"Funny, you're the broken one, but I'm the only one who needed saving."

People who agree with you about something, and then do something else and you find out with everyone else. Angry

People who do things to pacify you instead of just speaking up. Angry

Children (mine) who think the whole house is a laundry basket.
