My senior year of high school I was introduced to Country music and would consider it to probably be my favorite genre. I like a ton of secular songs but off-hand I can think of a few artists that I enjoy virtually all the stuff they do: C_Fresh, I love all of those too! And add Les Miserables into the mix. |

Master of the House (or whatever its called) cracks me up every time. boymom: What in the thelogical region of eternal punishment is a daddy-daughter ball? amyrose5:No one is in charge around here. Ok, I gotta chime in - I love Phantom of the Opera and Wicked. I also enjoyed Enya's "Only Time."
I avoided music while in fundyland, but I couldn't help but discover a few artists with cool tunes: Eminem, Beyonce/Destiny's Child (at least their singles), Christina Aguilera (Stripped era, though I was a fan of her pop era too), Ting Tings, Lady Gaga, Garbage/Shirley Manson, Zero 7, Joss Whedon (not really a music artist, but I do like Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along and the Firefly theme). Artists that I loved their singles or a couple of songs for but I'm not quite as sold on the whole album or career yet: Far East Movement, Blink 182, Bowling For Soup, Hoobastank, TLC, Aaliyah, Shaggy, Mya, Jennifer Lopez, Dream, Brazilian Girls, Dandy Warhols, Melissa Etheridge, Avril Lavigne, Vengaboys, S Club 7, Bon Jovi, Smashmouth, Nine Days Newer discoveries: Simon & Garfunkel, Johnny Cash (ok, I knew of him before, but never really explored his music till now), Billy Idol, Lupe Fiasco, Jonathan Coulton, Gotye, Samuel, Arcade Fire |

I was always a rebel in my music. I snuck around an listened to what I wanted like Sublime, Nirvana, 311, Ozzy Osbourne, etc then there was the rap phase with people like Eminem and Outkast- I still listen to and love both- DMX, etc... Now that I'm older and a mom, I prefer the more mellow stuff especially the stuff with a spiritual lift even if we don't share religions like Trevor Hall, Matisyahu and then Aaron Dugan and Amy Carrigan, The Dirty Heads, Bob Marley, a lot of dub step.

Since I still attend a fundamental baptist church, I would more-than-likely be considered a rebel WRT my music choices. I do enjoy classical music and other baptist-friendly fare. However, I'm also fond of stuff I know would make people at my church cringe such as Within Temptation, VNV Nation, Assemblage 23, Funker Vogt, Front 242, KMFDM, Depeche Mode and Rammstein.
The posts of Broadway tunes reminds me of my lone semester at BJU. I was in my room listening to the Phantom of the Opera soundtrack. From what I remember, most of it checked. However, I got to one bit where there were some drum bit and that was the time the PC decided he needed to walk into my room unannounced. I thought he his head was going to explode a la "Scanners" when he heard those evil drums go off. The fact that the Sun is maize and the sky is blue is neither in our control, nor is something we fraudulently contrived. It just shows that God has excellent taste in colors. |

Because the principal regularly went out to peek in teachers' car windows to look for "contraband". I always listened to secular music. I was not raised in a Fundy family. But I was forced to keep it all underground while teaching at the Christian school. They even had one of the Peters brothers come for a week and he conducted a record burning in the parking lot. I love Paul Simon, Simon & Garfunkel, U2, Green Day, Coldplay, REM back in the day....and a lot of other stuff. |

But I still held onto my boy band CDs. I don't know what I was thinking. |

Hahahahahaha You got rid of Eminem but kept the boy bands?! Wow, I can't believe you admitted that! My hubby got rid of the Eminem while we were still dating, but I listened to it secretly because I still loved it...he regrets it now too.
We had a school revival with either Dave Kistler or Tom Farrell, I can't remember which, but we had a music burning afterwards and my friend kept her rap but got rid of all of her alternative. I begged her to give it to me instead, but she was "Convicted" and felt it needed to be destroyed. I guess it was only partial conviction since she kept the rap. I refused to burn my music...like I said, I was a rebel. Also had Destiny's Child and a bunch of Now! CDs. I think my rationale at the time was that the boy bands and bubblegum pop were less sinful than alt rock, rap, and R&B. Thankfully, I had enough sense to hold onto The Beatles - even then I knew you just can't get rid of a classic.

I confess that I don't get the whole Beatles enthusiasm. I've never been that impressed with their music. I guess its because I didn't grow up in that era or hear them as a kid.
Much higher opinion of the Beach Boys. Love that sound and harmony. boymom: What in the thelogical region of eternal punishment is a daddy-daughter ball? amyrose5:No one is in charge around here.
