I tended towards drinks that weren't strong, but I really have no idea what I'd like. Which is quite annoying really. I don't want to spend a lot of money just to taste test things, and I don't feel a need to drink at home, I would just like to be able to drink socially - without feeling awkward.

Make sense?

Fruity, girly drinks for you, then.

RE: Beer.
I tried a beer tonight. I don't know what it was, other than that it was a lite beer and it was at a bar. It didn't taste like anything. It was like sparkling water, or something.

I dunno - I thought it was going to taste worse.

Sounds like Bud Light. Last time I had Bud Light, I mixed it with Coke to give it some flavor.

Shockingly, not all women only like sweet tastes.

Tiarali, perhaps you could befriend a microbrewer. Touring a local brewery can be great, too. Often pubs/bars that focus on beer will have samplers, so you could get them with a friend and try a bit of several things at once. A good bartender should be able to recommend things to try and may give you like a shot of beer to taste to see what you might like. Good luck!

Wow! I hate the taste of sparkling water; can't imagine beer not tasting like anything. But I'm probably a supertaster. Oh well.

But, Naomi, sterotypes are still fun.

Ditto on trying the samplers at bars or tap rooms. Here in Greenville, Barley's offers 6 half-pints for $12. Not a bad deal. There are 4 or 5 preselected samplers, or you can even pick all your own (excluding the most expensive beers). That has been a great way to branch out a bit without spending quite so much money.

Well... not really sparkling water. It did taste like something. Like a watered down, slightly fizzy, overall bland drink. I'm not a fan of sparkling water, but I was surprised that for something that is so revered as a drink, it just didn't taste like much.

Not all beers taste the same. If they did there wouldn't be thousands of different ones.
