It is a cultural thing. Even today, it's generally the role of the man to ask the woman out. A lot of dudes will think you're too forward. Some dudes won't care. Depends on the dude.

I like being pursued, but that's me. Some woman like to do the "chasing". Like Elijah said, it's a cultural thing and generally the man pursues the woman. My relationship didn't start that way though. I was always the one who asked him out and planned dates. It drove me CRAZY cause I hated doing it. When we talk about it now, he admits that his passive behavior was on purpose cause he knew it was driving me crazy and I would always come back. Sometimes I wish I could reverse time and inject some sort of "hunter" serum into him cause the start of our relationship wasn't fun at all.

But who cares? He's awesome.

I'll weigh in with my opinion:

I think the dating customs are changing and it is much less of a problem for a girl to ask a guy out. For me personally I'm not sure what I think about it. I was asked out by a girl once and it bothered me. Looking back though, I think it was because I just wasn't interested and also because I was a dating virgin. Now I don't think it would bother me and much less so if I already dug the girl.

In my case, I don't read people very well, especially women, so subtle hints will probably be missed.

The time before that, I was helping run this bar crawl for work, and this drunk dude literally chased me around the bar, tried to get my number, and made a grab at me every time I walked by. Then when the pub crawl was over, he told me he was married and showed me his wedding ring. It really doesn't make sense.

That appears to be the title of a book from the 60's (I suspected and looked at Wikipedia). As to why he'd try it as a pickup line, I don't know... it's Berkeley?

As for my situation, these girls were most likely wanting money for drugs, or drugs... coke, to be exact.

Ok, now there is a girl I am interested in, sweet, smart and lovely... and I will be going out on a group dinner (with her inside) this Friday and try to get to know her more. She might be American but she has family in my country so there is a greater chance of a r/s (if both of us are ok with it).

The problem is, she is a Catholic and I am worried should it get serious, what will my Reformed Baptist church say. Maybe I worry too much. But I do fear possible church discipline or even excommunication if they consider it a sin 'cos I'm dating someone "unequally yoked" and am a member of the church and they consider RC as a false denom. I'm asking this because even though I might not get in a r/s with her, I find that I tend to get easily interested in some women outside the Evangelical fold. And problems could develop if any such r/s get... serious.

Sorry to turn this into a "weirdest pick-up lines/scenarios" thread but a little advice for you guys: if you see a girl you think is pretty taking a nap outside in the grass on campus, you do NOT sneak up on her while she's sleeping, wait for her to wake up and see you crouching next to her, and then tell her that she has really pretty feet and that you have a fetish for feet and can you massage them. The answer is NO!!!!!! OMG WTF??!
