RE: Fundies and Birth control
Quote:Tooktheredpill I took the blue pill. hahaI have three sibs, as my parents included financial responsibility in their plans. Birth control was not discouraged, but taking the pill? Not so much. I think that had more to do with a belief that it would cause sexual activity (instead of solve medical issues and just generally improve my well-being), rather than beliefs about quivers and arrows. I honestly have no idea what kind of bc they used, just that it was used. “If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. RE: Fundies and Birth control
I have three siblings, and three children. Don't use b/c, but then, with my issues, I don't have to.

RE: Fundies and Birth control
The Fundies I know that hate birth control, hate it because they think it's not "pro-life" to prevent a life from happening.
Personally, I've never used the pill, and I never will. I think it does a lot of harm to a woman's body, including increasing the risk for breast cancer. My mom died of ovarian cancer, which isn't the same as breast cancer, but still, I try to do whatever I can to reduce my risks of getting any kind of cancer if I can help it. I'm a fan of natural family planning, and non-hormonal birth control methods. The way I see it, if God really wants us to have a baby when we think we're not ready for it, then He'll make sure it happens. No kind of birth control is 100% effective.

RE: Fundies and Birth control
I'm one of two.
And birth control didn't work for my Mom. She skipped ONE period and went to the doctor to discover that she was FOUR months pregnant. It's amazing that my sibling is healthy cuz Mom was still on the pill for the first 3 months of Sib's life. Quote:Personally, I've never used the pill, and I never will. Whatever I decide to do, I will NOT play with my hormones after all the problems that I've had with PCOS. |

I'm sorry to hear that. It's totally cool if you don't feel comfortable using the pill, but just so you know, it appears to reduce the risk of ovarian cancer. One of the biggest hurdles I've run into in figuring out what worked best for my body was that I got a lot of misinformation. Birth control pills have changed a lot since my mother tried them, and I had to wait until I left home and left my fundy school to be able to get treatment for dysmenorrhea so bad I occasionally wished I could die. Even then, when my mom found out, it caused a minor family uproar. Sorry, but nobody should have to go through that because "it's part of the curse." “If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. I haven't personally heard anything about birth control pills reducing the risk for ovarian cancer, but I have heard about them increasing the risk for breast cancer. I'm not even interested in using them, anyway. I don't judge others for using the pill, it's just not something I would do. It's been proven that the risks for ovarian cancer are reduced by having multiple children and breastfeeding. |

RE: Fundies and Birth control
I got my prescription for the pill from a gyno at BJU. Everyone engaged I knew there went on the pill. (a month or so before the wedding day so it will work)
