RE: The Prodigal Son
MacArthur lost me with his old statements about the blood of Jesus not being significant (Hebrews commentary prior to revision) and his "for God so loved the elect."

I've read several of his books and they are helpful. My problem with many of them is that they are boring. If he were a better author I'd read more of his books.

No sir. We call that Mr. Coffee.

Paul Chappell misled me about MacArthur's stance on the blood atonement. I later discovered it was Chappell who was actually teaching error by claiming Jesus had non-human blood.

Right. JMac's statements have been really misrepresented by fundies. He was really just responding against one of the damnable heresies common in fundamentalism, the mystical blood of Jesus. The blood is not magical, its not different than yours or mine, the reason Jesus blood saves is because it represents the essence of his life being given up. I don't know how many sermons I heard either attributing mystical qualities to the blood, or implying that Jesus blood somehow was higher than human. His point was that the blood was not significant, the shedding of the blood was significant.
