Romney/Cult/Votes?
I consider the Mormons to be a cult, another gospel if you will. Therefore I cannot bring myself to vote for Romney.
Several of my family members have tried to convince me that not voting for Romney is a vote for Obama, and I understand that, but I feel morally that I cannot/will not vote for him. Does anyone else here feel this way? Are there enough Christians that feel this way nationwide to give the election to Obama? The good news is that Christ died for all of you........not just some of you! |

RE: Romney/Cult/Votes?
I don't see the problem with his religion. If he was in the polygamous sect, then maybe I would.
I believe voting for a person based soley on their religion (pro or con) is unwise. boymom: What in the thelogical region of eternal punishment is a daddy-daughter ball? amyrose5:No one is in charge around here. I hear ya, and I would agree were his religion not a cult, in other words if he was in any mainline denomination, or no religion at all, I think I could vote for him, but not a cult. RE: Romney/Cult/Votes?
I don't consider really consider Mormons a cult so I guess that's where we differ on this. False gospel, quite possibly, but I've never actually talked to a Mormon and heard their explanations. Its always been outsiders saying what they believe. I think its about fear, like when people thought Kennedy would be taking his orders from the pope.

RE: Romney/Cult/Votes?
Since I see the state and the church as separate spheres of God-given authority, I can't agree with refusing to vote for Romney based on his Mormonism. If being a faithful Mormon would require him to do something sinful in his capacity as president then I wouldn't vote for him. But I don't see that.
My biggest problem with it, though greg, would be Obama's position on abortion. He's made it very clear that he's for abortion-on-demand, and as a senator he voted for a bill requiring that if a baby survived an abortion, another doctor was to be brought in to kill him or her. To me there is no question-–that is infanticide; that is murder. I may have concerns about Romney for a variety of reasons, but I cannot do anything that would support putting a murderer into the presidency. And refusing to vote for the other guy, to my conscience, is the same as voting for Obama in such a close election. Behold, what manner of love is this, that Christ should be arraigned and we adorned; that the curse should be laid on His head and the crown set on ours. –Thomas Watson |

RE: Romney/Cult/Votes?
I have LDS friends and they are normal people. I don't think they are going to lock step vote for Romney simply because he's a Mormon anymore than all women would have voted for Hilary Clinton just because they happened to be of the same sex.

RE: Romney/Cult/Votes?
Oh, for Pete's sake! Obama is NOT A MUSLIM! There is no evidence he is a muslim other than someone writing a chain letter claiming it. I put even less stock in that than I do the claims he's not an American.

That's exactly what my family members are telling me, but I still feel (for me) that voting for Romney is against God. If Obama would be elected, then let the cards fall where they may. Where I am at right now in my spiritual walk I simply can't cast a vote for Romney, but that is my own personal decision, I haven't tried to get anyone to follow me in this opinion, I know it's a personal one. (I just saw you said Obama was a Muslim, so this an edit, I don't believe that Obama is a Muslim) The good news is that Christ died for all of you........not just some of you! |

RE: Romney/Cult/Votes?
Call be me jaded but at that level of politics I don't think what a person claims as their religion matters very much. Other things will (for better or worse) end up informing their decisions much more than their personal faith whether that be JFK's Catholicism, Obama's Christianity, or Romney's Mormonism.
The reality is that it's barely even a factor. "It doesn't help to wear a hat on your head if your posterior is exposed." ~ PW "Don't make crazy your normal and then wonder why nobody agrees with you." ~ EC |
