It's interesting to me that the two most well known celebrity Scientologists, Tom Cruise and John Travolta are both guys who are rumored to be gay but whose careers are dependent upon portraying a straight image. Makes me wonder if blackmail was involved. |

RE: Scientology
I don't think it's blackmail.
L. Ron wanted Scientology to be palatable for normal, everyday people, which meant portraying Scientology as a family-friendly, "just like you" religion. Whether or not Scientology was ever against homosexuality - I've read statements to that effect before, some of it coming from L. Ron's writings. It's trying to clean that away from the records and their marketing, and in the future may openly accept them. Quote: "The sexual pervert (and by this term Dianetics, to be brief, includes any and al forms of deviation in dynamic two such as homosexuality, lesbianism, sexual sadism, etc., and all down the catalog of Ellis and Krafft-Ebing) is actually quite ill physically." L Ron goes on to say that such "perverts" should be taken out of society and treated. MANY YEARS LATER, L. Ron reverses himself, and seems to be more open to homosexuals. This seems weird, though, given the speculation that Cruise and Travolta are gay. I see Travolta trying to be a little more open about his bi-sexuality - the tabloid photos with him smooching the co-pilot seemed to me a little too "good" - how often do you have a series of perfectly framed shots of people doing something they would normally want to hide? As he did by openly saying his late son was autistic (Scientology rejects autism), Travolta seems to be sometimes thumbing his nose at his religion, or signaling he's tired of the game. It wouldn't matter to me if every Scientologist was gay. If the CofS is helping people just hide it, though, or if they have a dichotomy in sexual doctrine, at what point are they just being hypocritical? <conspiracy theory>
Cruise settled the divorce with Holmes so quickly because Scientology was getting a really focused review by the media...alleging Holmes left him to protect Suri from Scientology's weird child indoctrination methods. This would mean Cruise chose to walk away from child custody preferences to protect his sick religion from bad press. Cruise's former Scientology counselor thinks so...Plus he blames Scientology's meddling for all of Cruise's failed marriages. http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment...-1.1111256 </conspiracy theory> |

RE: Scientology
I think that's highly likely, Umbrell.
Whoever Katie had help her with this separation and divorce and almost-certain Scientology fallout, they couldn't have created a better perfect storm. If the church wen't to their grab-bag of dirty tricks, well, the media was just waiting on dirty tricks to happen, and that would not have played well to the New York courts. It really was amazing how this went down. I bet even Cruise got some time with Suri out of the deal, as long as he doesn't try to indoctrinate her. ---- What I thought was interesting was some old Mimi Rogers quote on Tom's monkish personal lifestyle, which kid of fits with what Katie was letting leak early on. Conclusion - one of two things: either Cruise's devotion to the religion has made a marriage impossible, or he's hiding something from his wife (wives). I would be interested in reading more about it. I even noticed an article against Scientology's recruitment procedures from Britain - Where Scientology is not recognized and they would probably have a harder time taking it to court. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-...uly-4.html |

RE: Scientology
The Scientologists have started targeting Nashville. Country music stars and all that. I've only been approached by them once, and that was enough. If they try again, I have the perfect answer: I don't make enough money to be interesting

Village Voice says Lisa Marie has had enough... they still list her on their web site as a Scientologist though.
http://blogs.villagevoice.com/runninscar...tology.php This is MAJOR BUCKS they will be losing, and I can't see them letting her go so easily. But these are some lyrics to a song she wrote about it: Quote:This here is a city without lights Maybe she'll drop by the forum and say hi! ![]() I hope she hires some good bodyguards too. Off the record, on the QT and very hush-hush |

RE: Scientology
A lot of former scientologists still practice scientology tenets and believe in LRH's vision, but they don't like the strong-arm tactics of current management. I wonder if that is what the Presley girl is doing.

So, evidently the Nation of Islam is cozying up to Scientology, so much so that Black Muslims are becoming Scientology auditors, because Farrakhan was impressed by a former local leader's experience with the L Ron Hubbard cult.
