Enforcing the law = persecution?

So here's a question I have for you: what limits should there be on allowing people to come to this country and claim rights as citizens? Should every single person who makes it across the border be granted the same rights as those born here?

Maybe they could have a deal more like I have. I'm a (legal) immigrant and therefore a permanent resident. I can't vote and their are a few other rights I don't have. Rather than granting them citizenship, how about residency? Well, at least for the ones that haven't committed any other crime. Smile Just a thought.

The lack of comment about white people once being illegal aliens in the US is very telling.

Enforcing the law.

Do you want a list of laws that are not enforced?

How is it that of 100 cars driving 10 MPH over the speed limit the only one stopped is the one that seems to be Hispanic?

So, yes, in this case enforcing the law selectively is persecution. We are being judged not by the content of our character, but by the color of our skin. (How many rednecks will be stopped and asked for "Papers, please?" Undocumented Irish can be assured they will never be harassed in AZ.

We are persecuting the victim. If we did not train and support the military in Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras and so many other places in terrorizing techniques, there would be a lot less immigrants.

If there weren't so many American Businessmen willing to hire these people for sub-minimum wage, you would not see any immigrants.

Want to solve the immigrant problem? Deport anyone who hires an illegal immigrant. Deport anyone who eats a fruit or vegetable picked by illegal immigrants. Refuse to walk on lawns mowed by illegal immigrants. Refuse to walk into offices that were cleaned overnight by illegal immigrants. Refuse to go into restaurants where illegal immigrants are washing dishes. Close the doors to any illegal immigrants wanting to walk into your church.

Do not accept any illegal immigrants walking down the aisle to kneel up front.

Do we need Comprehensive Immigration Reform? You betcha! Instead, this country is preparing itself for our own "Noche de Cristal."

For every difficult and complicated question there is an answer that is simple, easily understood and wrong." H.L. Mencken

That's neither here nor there.

Quote:How is it that of 100 cars driving 10 MPH over the speed limit the only one stopped is the one that seems to be Hispanic?

Nonsense. The black guy will get pulled over just as frequently as the Hispanic guy does.

But your (very long) response doesn't answer my question so I'll repost it:

I have absolutely no problem with granting legal residency to people from whatever country in the world they hail from as long as it is in the best interest of our country to do so. I assume you went through a lengthy process to get legal residence here. You followed the rules and obeyed the law.

Do you think it's fair that somebody else get the same privileges that you do by simple running across the border and completely disregarding the system in place? Should those people be rewarded with status?

Just out of curiousity, Ricardo, is there another nation's immigration policy that works better? Some solution that has been tried by another country that seems to be working out?

People of all kinds are going to show up and there is no point in trying to stop them. Slow them down maybe or send back the criminal elements but whatever...the land belongs to no one.

But without our immigrants, who will kick our field goals, or train our white tigers?

We all have our own inner angry natives and our minds invent a million ways to avoid confronting them directly. But if you just look them in the eye and ask them why they're chasing you with spears you just might learn something about yourself.

Hard to say. In Europe they took out the borders altogether. The flooding of Northern countries Norway, Sweden, Germany, by riff-raft from southern countries (Portugal, Spain, Greece, Turkey, never materialized. Yes, there are a lot of southern workers taking jobs in the northern countries, but it has pretty much followed the laws of supply and demand.

In honor of Darrell I will try not to invoke Goodwin's Law.

But, I'm wondering why, when there are so many serious problems to solve, has this country become obsessed with persecuting a group of people that is not hurting anyone. What are we as a nation to gain from expelling 14 million children, mothers, fathers and grandparents?

So I can go live there without needing any kind of visa or paperwork?
