We live four blocks from the county fairgrounds. Every year, we got very few flies until the last week of July—fair week—then they were a constant nuisance until first frost. Then I found Black Flag window fly traps. They're like fly paper, but they actually work. (I've never seen a fly land on fly paper. Most flies aren't that blind or that stupid.) These are a sheet of transparent plastic, 2.75" x 8", that you stick to the window. Flies can't see it. They fly toward the light, hit the glass, buzz around looking for an opening, and land on the sticky trap. Any fly that gets in the house ends up on the trap.
