should Mark Chappell an Admitted Molester still be a Pastor
Mark Chappell current pastor of Freeway Baptist church in Pheonix Az was a youth pastor at Heritage Baptist church in Wallingford Ct. Back in 1989 Mark Chappell was removed from this position after being caught on multiple occassions having sexual relations with an underaged girl; who was a church member, student at the "christian" school and his baby sitter. After initially covering this up the pastor finally anounced what had been going. He really had no choice since Mark had been caught on more than one occassion and by different people! Mark was brought in front of the church and admitted to what he had done and that it took place over an extended period of time and muliple times. True to "fundy" way the pastor stated that this should be delt with from within church otherwise we would be "letting the devil win!" because it would hurt the church etc. The pastor went through a list of things Mark would have to do including councelling and reading his bible, and Mark was no longer allowed to be around children or alone with any females. He went on to say that Mark may sometime in the future be able to serve in the choir but that he would never be allowed back to his old position. To make a long story short Mark skipped town some time later never answering for what he'd done, not to the church or the authorities. Well he moved on to 1st baptist Long Beach and became pastor there and was booted for... Adultery! Oh yeah Mark was married while our youth pastor in Ct and had at least one small child and his wife was pregnant with2nd or 3rd when story broke of him molesting student/babysitter. Wife stuck with him but finally had enough sometime after his affairs in Long Beach came to light. Well true to form he ran again left the first wife and children behind and moved on to Freeway Baptist in Phoenix AZ where his uncle was retiring as pastor and handed the church over to Mark !! Oh yeah back to 1st Baptist Long Beach Marks father Larry Chappell was a pastor there before Mark but he too was booted for multiple affairs!! You can't make this stuff up! Well Mark has lied and covered up the truth long enough! This story is all true and is easily verified. Mark Chappell has no buisness behind the pulpit in Freeway or any other church! So if you know him or of him tell him it's time to step down and if he has any sense of repentance in his heart he should come back to Ct and turn himself in! He has recently lashed out at a member who questioned him on this stating that "the Devil was useing them" and that he was "under grace" so it was finished!! I pose this senario to Mark Chappell or any supporter of him: If Mark Chappell's new "wife" was raped would it be "ok" as long as he said he was "under grace"? would Mark support him, the rapist, as a pastor? I mean he is "under grace" after all; what if Mark was raped? would he turn the other cheek? What about kidnapping? what if you bring the kidnapped kids to AWANA? or become bus captain and only kidnap a few of them?I mean as long as you bring the rest to sunday school, whats one or two lives as long as bring the rest to church, Right Mark?! Of course this is only if you profess "I'm under grace"!
Sorry I'm Rambling on but I only recently found out where Mark went after he ran away from CT! I m still in shock that he was ever allowed to become a pastor never mind twice ! Please help get the word out about this man ask your pastors to call for him to step down!! Any other Ideas on what can be done? I am sure his congragation is not aware of his molesting students here in CT please help get the word out!! |

You could email Jerri Massi ar jeriwho@pipeline.com She is known as Bassenco here. She might be willing to get involved and contact the authorities. She got involved in the Hepzibah House abuses and there was media coverage.

RE: should Mark Chappell an Admitted Molester still be a Pastor
I have already urged victims to call the police. I also posted the contact information (which somebody had posted here) on the Topix forum, but somebody complained and had it removed. A witness has to call the police. I have called the police before on cases, but they want names and contact info of witnesses. In the Brent Stevens case, I was able to compile documentation of what Dave Hyles had done because I did have names and court records. But even then the cops only pursued it because one of the cops realized that Dave was having sex with his wife. My allegations were only later pursued by Orange County Sheriffs because I could link Dave to Joyce Phaneuf, who was busted for prostitution. Even I had to have a real name and a real touch point with real events.
I can just about guarantee you that pastors will not help in this matter. In 12 years of documenting clergy abuse cases, I have never had a pastor come forward to help sex abuse victims, ever. Witnesses and victims must contact the police. If I contacted the police with no names of victims and no real details or way to back up what I am saying, they would tell me that they needed witnesses, names, victims to come to them. If you know the names of victims, go to the police. If you are a victim, go to the police. The Hephzibah House project I did was different because the women were willing to be identified and spoke right up about who abused them, who was abused, all by name. And even then, it took months of work to put together the audio documentary and several thousand dollars. I only moved forward on that when I knew the women would speak to me and identify themselves and victims and perpetrators, and they had exhausted their options with law enforcement, which to this day ignores them (but that is not typical). But right now I am working on a very sensitive project and I cannot be spared from it. The addition of the new OBBC abuse case has taken up the last inch of my time. I'm sorry. You need to take responsibility for what you know and go to the police. I cannot do it for you. BASSENCO Blog on the Way Recovering Fundamentalists (podcast) Audio Bible project (read by women) |

I didn't volunteer your services. I merely brought this person's attention to the fact that your specialty is fundy pastors who are abusers. Lighten up. You have quite an opinion of yourself. That is the last time I will ever mention your name.

You have quite an opinion of yourself. That is the last time I will ever mention your name. Well, I just told you the reality of the situation. The only way I can handle cases is by first verifying that the case can move forward. An anonymous person who is not going to the police in spite of being urged to do so, and who alleges crimes with no specifics apart from the perpetrator, could certainly be telling the truth. I do believe the allegations. But the absence of any type of validation will waylay my limited time from other cases where I can be effective. I actually have a very realistic perspective of my limitations. I cannot spin flax into gold. If the necessary information does not exist, I cannot move forward. I wouldn't want anybody to raise false hopes by asserting on a public forum that I can. That's not fair to the person who refuses to go to law enforcement, and it's not fair to me. A private email asking me about a case would be much more wise and helpful to everybody. But don't let my limitations hold you back, Bob. Jump right in yourself and help. That's how I learned how to do it, not by volunteering others, but by simply taking action. And that's always been my hope: that other Christians will step up and help victims of clergy abuse. I don't see how this case can be helped without more verifiable information. But if you see a way, step up and help. RE: should Mark Chappell an Admitted Molester still be a Pastor
It is horrible that a church full of adults heard Mark Chappell's confession, yet none of them will call the police and tell them what they witnessed. All those adults are witnesses!
Even worse...If that church was large enough some of those witnesses were probably police officers!!!! |
