On a slightly related note, has anyone heard someone invoke God's "watchcare" in prayer? I've never seen that in the Bible, and have no idea from whence it came...

Yes. My dad. Lots of times. I've probably said it myself from time to time. I have no idea where it came from either.

And that prayer Don mentioned? Sounds sooo much like my dad, it's amazing.

RE: How should you address God?
There are lots of weird things people say in prayer. My old pastor always used to pray that God would bind the devil while we were out soulwinning. Here is the thing - that kind of prayer went directly against their theology (or anyones theology).

They are dispensational, so they believe Satan is free right now (roaming as a roaring lion etc), and will not be bound until the Millennium - so why pray for something they know is not going to happen.

For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; - Titus 2:11-12

RE: How should you address God?
I've heard people say "Lord, Father God" and "Father God" when praying. Now, obviously I am not against using God's name when praying (I usually address him as "Jesus" or "Lord"). But since "Lord" "Father" and "God" are all interchangeable, when someone strings them together in a prayer, to me it seems like they're saying the same exact thing over and over and over (like I just did with "and over").

I am praying right now for a hedge of protection around alls y'all here at SFL - I have no idea what it is, but I am praying for it.

Not only for a hedge but for someone to stand in the gap as well! (I'm not sure where the gap is or what caused it but someone needs to stand in it.)

There are many shrubberies and not just for protection. I know someone who prayed for a hedge of thorns to prick her daughter until she realized what she was doing was wrong.

But what if the hedge is in the gap thus making it impossible for someone to stand in it?
