Get on your local Freecycle e-mail list and request 'em! Try Craigslist too.

RE: Culottes
I went to a public school but wasn't allowed to wear pants. Culottes every day. Most of them were made by my mom because they weren't able to be found in the stores in the 80s. One pair in particular was made from red double knit material with blue thread. They were hideous. My sister and I still remember that pair and poke fun at our mom for making us wear them. We both wear pants now. I hate culottes with a passion and agree with whoever said the only good use for them is bonfire fuel!

RE: Culottes
My grandmother took me to the mall so that I could buy khakis, jeans, etc. for my honeymoon. She stashed them for me at her house until after my wedding.....there was no way in hell my husband wanted me wearing those ugly "garments of modesty".

She was/is positively wonderful. She thought my parents were freaks....but then my parents thought she was one too since she was a Catholic.

I thought that women weren't supposed to wear that which pertaineth to a man?

Shoes have come a long way from their humble beginnings as simple leather moccasins. Today footwear is built to withstand any extreme environment where a foot can tread -- from the heart of a burning building to the track of an Olympic stadium ~Scorps

RE: Culottes
That rule only applies to pants. A fundy woman is allowed to wear culottes and t-shirts which were traditionally men's garments. They are also allowed to wear pajama pants (only in some households), and they are allowed to go to the men's department and buy oxford shirts for themselves.

Oh, she can also put on her husband's suit coat before/during/after the church service if she is cold.

RE: Culottes
I wondered for -half a second- why culottes were not a hit in Costa Rica.

In Spanish "culottes" means "big ass." Not a word to be mentioned from the pulpit.

For every difficult and complicated question there is an answer that is simple, easily understood and wrong." H.L. Mencken
