ACE and the Loch Ness monster - Apathetic or whatever - 06-26-2012 08:46 PM

Apparently, ACE paces are citing the existence of the Loch Ness monster as evidence that evolution is not true. I have no idea if this is true or not since it seems almost like a too on-the-nose parody.

I can believe that they tried to put a good spin on the KKK though.

Link to where they tried to put a good spin on the KKK please! I never did history PACEs, now that I think about it... We used Landmark or some other, even lesser-known, curriculum.

Okay. It looks like it was our good friends at BJU, not ACE. The original article that I read implied that it was ACE.

Quote:One excerpt from Bob Jones University Press American history textbook has been reported as saying: "the [Ku Klux] Klan in some areas of the country tried to be a means of reform, fighting the decline in morality and using the symbol of the cross ... In some communities it achieved a certain respectability as it worked with politicians."

Quote: "the [Ku Klux] Klan in some areas of the country tried to be a means of reform, fighting the decline in morality and using the symbol of the cross ... In some communities it achieved a certain respectability as it worked with politicians."

I would like to see the rest of the context around these two quotes. I am fully aware of BJU's sorry history specifically involving the Klan and generally in the arena of race. But the two quotes (particularly the second one) above are true statements if they are part of a larger set of paragraphs outlining the history of the Klan, its relations with the broader American culture around the turn of the 20th century, and a clear denunciation of its tactics of intimidation, violence and misinformation.

Having been a Fundy High history teacher, I know that BJU's history texts are more fair and honest than A Beka. Not that either of them are great, but I had to go against the book less with BJU than with Beka.

True. I think wikipedia says something similar to the quote.

What does ACE stand for? I know it as "Alliance for Catholic Education"... and I am sure that can't be the one you refer to. Wink

Accelerated Christian Education (a misnomer in multiple ways IMHO)
