Hidalgo Grain Company Taken Down - Dude - 06-04-2012 10:26 PM The CEO claims that he has received credible threats of physical violence against his family and is going to stop posting his blog as a result. His post seems to indicate that the threats are posted online someplace. Anybody know anything about this? RE: Hidalgo Grain Company Taken Down - Waldo L - 06-04-2012 10:35 PM Is it related to his recent post about Daisy Dead-head? Didn't people like to threaten her? Maybe they started threatening this guy too. Rats. He had a good blog that was informative (and entertaining). edit: I was reading his blog earlier today! I wonder whatever happened within the past 10 hours. Probably my fundy reflex, but I'll pray for him and his family's safety. RE: Hidalgo Grain Company Taken Down - pastor's wife - 06-04-2012 10:46 PM I don't know. I stopped reading it several months ago. I couldn't figure out where he was coming from. Sometimes he seemed to dislike BJU; sometimes he seemed to support it. My confusion and growing discomfort with some of the posts and the comments caused me to discontinue following some time ago. RE: Hidalgo Grain Company Taken Down - BASSENCO - 06-05-2012 06:46 AM The threats are in the comments of this post on Daisy Deadhead's site: http://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=4434847738227924337&postID=4913828811571605341 The CEO called things as he saw them, so he cannot be easily assigned to one group or another. That type of mindset is not common in Fundamentalism or its step children. I let him know that I thought his latest hobbyhorse (Chris Peterman) was getting tedious (and some of what he said was beneath him). But he had a running feud with the group he called "The Disaffected" from BJU. I didn't bother to keep up with a lot of it. But there is no doubt that he was threatened, as was his wife. RE: Hidalgo Grain Company Taken Down - captain_solo - 06-05-2012 06:48 AM Daisy and some guy who was defending her were in a spat with him in the comments...he claimed there were some email threats there before it was taken down. Unfortunately the world of fundamentalism is not the only place where threats and intimidation are used to prop up false ideologies when people lose in the arena of ideas. Can't we all just get along? RE: Hidalgo Grain Company Taken Down - BASSENCO - 06-05-2012 06:50 AM Taken down? The threats are still right there! (7:50 AM EST) (Four minutes later, Jeri gets it.) Oh sorry, you meant before the CEO's site was taken down. Duh. RE: Hidalgo Grain Company Taken Down - C_Fresh - 06-05-2012 07:05 AM This threat? Quote:DaisyDeadhead said...more... Spoiler: Edited 6/6 10:12 AM to make redactions. I have read many different people's opinions both pro- and anti-BJU as well as those who have mixed feelings. I grew increasingly uncomfortable with Hidalgo's name-calling, over-generalizations, and accusations -- the "feud" as you describe it. I disliked his tone and attitude toward those with whom he disagreed. I enjoy and learn from your blog, Bassenco, but Hidalgo's blog started more and more having a spirit about it which disturbed my own spirit. I truly feel he went beyond "calling it as he saw it". C_Fresh, I agree. That sounds like threats from thugs. Very inappropriate. RE: Hidalgo Grain Company Taken Down - BASSENCO - 06-05-2012 07:32 AM Greg got caught in the trap of many people who are clever with words and prize their ability to win at words: he finally crossed somebody who would settle the matter with violence. As I said, I didn't approve of a lot of the stuff he was recently writing, and I said so on his blog. But I certainly think the threats of violence are wrong and speak of an even worse lack of perspective and lack of integrity. It was clear that a lot of Greg's adversaries would never beat him at words. Certainly Daisy Deadhead wouldn't. So they resorted to something else. RE: Hidalgo Grain Company Taken Down - usernametaken - 06-05-2012 07:49 AM I've enjoyed reading the CEO's webpage for awhile. His recent hang up on the Chris Peterman story seemed a bit obsessive, but I admired the way he backed up everything he said with documented proof. He was definitely snarky at times, but was usually worth the read. And now once again someone is silenced by bullying and intimidation. I don't know what this Daisy Deadhead creature is, but this act is despicable. Another case of someone on the left using fundamentalist tactics to silence dissent. {EDIT} I take that back. I've never known of any fundys who threaten to sick a biker friend on someone's home then publish the address. This goes beyond typical fundy bullying. |
