Tookthereone is right. i think in 10 years it is going to be a non issue. same with the legalization or at least decriminalization of pot RE: 9th Circuit Court of Appeals: Still looney after all these years - Darrell - 02-08-2012 09:37 AM Quote:I thought i read that it already was headed there. There's no doubt they'll file. We'll see if the Justices decide they actually want to hear it. Quote:in 10 years it is going to be a non issue. In society at large, perhaps. The church will be wrestling with it for far, far longer. The ‘church [IFB]’ and other religious institutions as well will struggle with these issues forever RE: 9th Circuit Court of Appeals: Still looney after all these years - Darrell - 02-08-2012 10:38 AM (02-08-2012 10:28 AM)Shoes Wrote:Darrell Wrote:In society at large, perhaps. It's hardly an IFB issue. The Catholics, The Anglicans, The Presbyterians, the Methodists, The Lutherans and on and on have had splits, controversy and no end of ink spilled over this for well over a decade. That represents a pretty large slice of Christendom. RE: 9th Circuit Court of Appeals: Still looney after all these years - Shoes - 02-08-2012 11:38 AM Darrell Wrote:It's hardly an IFB issue. Believe me, i understand that it isn't just IFBC that consider this to be sin. Cool Shoes Wrote:... and other religious institutions ... this was part of my reply for that very reason. Oh, I missed the memo. We're hating on stinky feet this week? RE: 9th Circuit Court of Appeals: Still looney after all these years - bean - 02-08-2012 09:49 PM Kind of like the judicial tyranny the good people of the south had to endure with the Brown v. Board of education cases, the James Meredith case, Little Rock 9, et. al? I teach history and civics. I deal in parallels. I don't come out and tell this to my students, but some get it. We just listened to a radio program today called "Mississippi: State Of Siege" and it was about how "mighty whitey" was gonna tell all those troublemaking colored folk to mind their own damn business and quit stirring up trouble. Of course, the interviewed people painted nice justificiations for Jim Crow, how good it was about the white commies came down to agitate, and how it was the NATURAL ORDER OF THINGS. They also went on about how it was time to "take a stand against Jew-dish-al tyrnE" and that they as good Misssuhsip-eans was gonna stand their ground. (Spelled like it sounded to get the ENTIRE EFFECT) They played tv commericals from the Citizens Council tv show from 1960, encouraging Mississippians to fight for "freedom" and "representative democracy." Here's my question, Mr. Greg. Had Mississippi voted on Brown V. Board of Education in 1954, how would that have gone? In 65? In 70? You tell me. RE: 9th Circuit Court of Appeals: Still looney after all these years - bean - 02-08-2012 10:01 PM And I am NOT making "fun" of a southern accent by any means. I love southern accent. I'm trying to get people the entire feel for how several, older miss. residents were explaining their views. Hear the words and see the image in the theatre of your mind, as I tell my students. Radio: Theatre of the mind. Makes you think. Love it. |
