Greg, maybe you could best explain "hispanic invasion" better than I could. I didn't want to assume the worst out of you. I would simply assume the phrase is loaded unless it has another explanation, so give it a shot! Smile

I think you need to watch the movie Canadian Bacon. The new American president is losing popularity because there's no war going on, so the US looks for a country to start a Cold War with. Russia is too busy perfecting "universal indoor plumbing," so the US goes after Canada. The Americans all panic and start burning Bryan Adams records and the media starts fear-mongering about "Anne Murray...all day...EVERY day." It is REALLY funny.

I did abit of checking, and I'm only doing this because I said I would answer most any question. Anyway, hispanic can mean alot of things. But it became popular, or so says wikipedia (I know, I know) in the U.S. in about the 80's to refer to spanish-speaking folks as hispanic, that seems about right to me. Invasion of course, is the arrival of a large number of people, not necessarily to take over.

So hispanic-invasion is when a bunch of folks, primarily speaking spanish, illegally and criminally "invade" a neighboring country. (mine)

I would object to any group of people speaking any kind of language to invade our country. I have nothing against any race or group of people, just don't try to "invade" my country and we're all good.

Love that movie, but it's been years since I have seen it!
I used to go to Canada, a lot. Then all the passport crap started and i haven't gotten one. I miss the place. We used to go to Winnipeg at least once a year. When our dollar was strong we could go to the small town just over the border and load up on baby formula and many groceries far cheaper than we could buy here in the states. And, my experience with "socialized medicine" was awesome. Our poor little boy got his finger in the door at the hotel in Winnipeg one night. Quick trip to the Health Sciences Centre hospital. We waited maybe 30 minutes and were seen right away. Great care, and the bill was 10 bucks. My insurance paid 150. Good luck getting an ER visit for that here in the states.

Greg, I'm so glad to know you don't have anything against them. It does sound more reasonable now that you explain it.
So, using the same logic, I am reasonably certain then that you would describe the period from 1492 til about 1950 as a "European Invasion" of the country. The periods 1607 to probably 1850 were probably the height of the invasion, but it continued in waves all the way up through the 20th century.
That really was an invasion as well. Especially, the part when the Europeans came and forced aboriginal peoples from their land.
Hundreds of thousands came and overran the place, speaking a different language and with a completely different culture.

I wonder if this hispanic invasion is anything the british invasion of the 1960s?

Dude, Winnipeg is TERRIFYING. At least the inner-city part. But I'm glad you like it, as well as our health care. It's not a perfect system, but it's pretty good.

I like the Forks. The museum. The art gallery, fun mountain...the zoo.. HSC was an interesting place at 11 o clock on a Friday night. Yeah downtown is a different place!

So Tonx, here's my question for you. I get so many people who almost flip out whenever single payer health care is mentioned. Would you trade your system for ours?

I have really crappy insurance, and I am a teacher in a public school. No dental. We pay over 13K a year for a really lousy plan that has a 1500 per person deductible and a 10K out of pocket. NOTHING is covered. It should be called "YourFault Insurance by Blue Cross." Oh, it's covered..but you'll never get past the per incident deductible.

Forget the bill, good luck even getting seen in the E.R. in the U.S. It's loaded down with illegal, invading hispanics! Who mostly won't pay the bill, they work under the table and don't pay taxes. They won't go to a regular doctor because they won't pay, and the E.R. must take them. And this is so enriching to our country, how?
