Look back to how we treated immigrants of Europe in the lead up to WWII and during the war. Jewish refugees faced massive hurdles to enter America because our immigration "law" allowed 4 times the number of whites from the UK as people of Eastern and Southern Europe. Why?
We have a long history of demonizing those who want to immigrate here if they are different from us. A very long history.

Yep. No doubt that sucks. What does this have to do with you thinking Greg is a racist? I don't suspect he was around making immigration policy during WW2...

I don't believe I said that he is a racist. But using a term like "hispanic invasion" makes me think. It sounds to me a like a term that might perpetuate stereotypes of people and groups that are different...

To me it sounds like a term that somewhat describes the situation- nothing more and nothing less. I don't automatically assume racism about people I assume are my Christian brothers and sisters. I mean did it never occur to you to give Greg the benefit of the doubt and think about what he might mean by that term in the context of what he was saying? like it had no other meaning than your assumption of racism? Or was it just easier to assume since he's so brash that he must be a racist?

hahaha Greg! If that happens I'll be the first to know. They drive right by my house. In fact, they invade every weekend to shop and eat in restaurants!
On a serious note...it's not a race card. I've studied sociology and been in education for twenty years. I can tell you that issues like race, gender, and class make a difference.
What would the world look like if we accepted people who were different from us, if we met basic human needs, and if we met our basic responsibilities to our fellow man? These are some of the questions a liberal asks. I'm proud to be a liberal. I'm not ashamed. I believe in the potential of human beings for good in this world.

Hahahahaha! I don't think so Tonx. We love it when you guys come this way! Canadians are usually very nice and love to have a great time. They spend tons of money, eat in our restaurants, and stay in our hotels. Glad they invade on a regular basis, it's keeping our local economy hopping!

Bean - If that's the case, then I think you should ask yourself why you wanted to assume the worst about me. I'm not bashful (as you can tell) If you ask me a question, I will give an honest answer.
Liberals certainly aren't the only ones that are concerned about the less fortunate. Conservatives ask the exact same questions. The problem arises when we attempt solutions to "fix" those problems. I am a conservative, but I am much more proud/humbled to be a christian.
