Yeah, not really bingo at all.

I prefer to deal in realities. A bunch of people were screwed over by a bunch of other people. They're all dead. That ship has sailed.

The CIA is reporting very large numbers of Al Queda and its sympathizers amassing in Central America, particularly Mexico. They obviously use that as a staging point to move into the USA.

The latest part of NAFTA was just implemented which allows uninspected trucks to roll through checkpoints into the USA.

It might sound all politically correct to talk about people that want to come here and how all of our ancestors were immigrants and that's all true. It is also true that we have no way of knowing who is coming in and what their intentions are. I'm not to keen on another 9/11 thank you very much. What's the point of frisk-raping old white grannies in airports if we won't even police our own Southern border?

Oh, and most people really honestly don't give a rip about the ethnicity of anyone that comes here. People are inspired by the immigrants who start productive businesses and live the American dream for themselves. People are pissed off about people perhaps not participating in the tax system and receive social service benefits. Oh, and not to mention that the NAACP is now crying to the UN that some states are passing voter ID laws. Imagine being able to prove you are citizen to vote!

As usual Don, you say it way better than I ever could.

Let's get real about this situation. So many of these uniformed folks (hope they haven't figured out how to register to vote) simply want to hold hands and sing "kum by yah" around the campfire. They make fun of Michelle Bachmann, (I don't much care btw, not a huge fan) but at least she is standing up and taking seriously the "hispanic" invasion of this country, and from where I'm sitting, she seems to be about the only one.

Greg, all I know is I teach enough about world cultures and past conflicts that I kinda want to throw up when I hear anyone talk about "those people." We blame and blame and blame. Will we not learn the lessons of the past? We fear what we do not understand. Will we continue to let ignorance fuel our racial bigotry?

I'm very mystified by so many comments on here. Did I ever refer to any group of people as "those people?" That's insulting! I am not a bigot, or prejudiced. I completely support "legal" immigration, and for making that process much easier, faster and inexpensive. There is nothing, that I can think of, that I don't understand about the "hispanic invasion." There is an awful lot of ignorance going on in this debate by folks that claim they are being "compassionate" and really have no grasp at all of the complexity of the problems involved with trying to deal with 15 million illegal, criminal invaders.

For all the knowledge that you claim you have on the subject you aren't exhibiting very much of it with this comment.

It occurs to me that you may be speaking in a general sense and may not be directing those comments at me, if so, deduct 80% of my vitriol.

I am diametrically opposed to "any" amnesty programs. All persons criminally, illegally caught in the U.S. must be deported yesterday.

...And then the Canadian walked into the chatroom and thought, "American politics fascinate me..."

You said "hispanic invasion." You are asserting that they are criminal and illegal. I assert they are only seeking opportunity.

Most likely both.

If I take this the wrong way Greg, I apologize.
To me, this looks like xenophobia and prejudice towards hispanics. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I think people on both (or any) sides of the aisle automatically assume the worst of the other. I shouldn't speak for Greg but I can just about guarantee you that's not what he meant. It's really indisputable that the 13 million illegal immigrants are mostly hispanic. It's also indisputable that they're here illegally. It's also indisputable that it's a horrific problem for the people that want to immigrate legally, for the immigrants themselves who get crappy jobs for crappy under the table wages in crappy conditions. It's sucky all the way around so why wouldn't people be upset about it?
