I'm with you. I work for a very large firm at its HQ in New York City. When I started there it was required to wear a suit & tie every day including Fridays. Then the firm went "business casual" and I hated it. It was much easier to have 4 white shirts and 1 light blue shirt and match them with ties, than to have all these casual shirts and slacks in every freaking color of the rainbow...especially for someone like me who is partially color blind. Now every night I have to get my combinations "checked" by the wife to make sure stuff matches.... Confused

I'm so sorry. My dad and his coworker are partially color blind, except they deal with electronics that can zap them. It's not something they could have planned for.

I think the artist series at BJ soured me on dressing up. It was fun if you are a freshman or if you have a boyfriend but by third semester of my junior year it was SO OLD...and I had a boyfriend.Big Grin

I never liked dressing up for church even when I was a girl. Have no idea why but I just never liked being part of what seemed like a perpetual Easter parade.

As soon as we went to a church that was a 'come as you are casual' I jumped right in! Had no problem wearing slacks/jeans to church.

I still wear pants to church but its mostly dressy pants now.

Yeah, I did all of the dressing up for church I needed to at school. I am against going to church and not being able to wear something comfortable which is usually jeans and a polo.

My solution is to wear lots of black, white, grey, and silver. It all matches, but with the downside that, just occasionally, you overdress for something. Big Grin

Artist Series was, for me, actually the best time to dress up. I have all these romantic notions from my childhood about what nights at the theatre/club/casino/etc. are supposed to be like, and really snazzing up for Artist Series and mixing and mingling was the closest I could get to living that out. Curse you, Rocketeer. Wink

I don't believe in the idea of being expected to "dress up" for church. However, I like to wear a suit and a tie.

For the King's Singers one year Hubby and I dressed as oddly as we could. He wore all brown - brown slacks, brown argyle vest, brown suit coat. I wore my two piece outfit from Togo, which had a long skirt. We got a few strange looks, but since everything checked, no one official approached us.

RE: Dress Code - pastor's wife - 01-20-2011 08:06 AM

My husband likes having people dressed lots of different ways at church from suits to casual. That way if visitors come in, no matter how they're dressed, there will be someone wearing something similiar. That totally eclectic look is a little strange, and I do think someone might feel awkward dressed in a suit and tie next to a guy in shorts and a t-shirt. I like dressing up for church, but I don't like demanding it or assuming God loves me more if I do.

RE: Dress Code - JordanMaria - 01-20-2011 10:01 AM

I've always worn a dress to church growing up.

If I ever go to church now to visit, I'll wear dress pants just to look nice. I still get a little queasy about wearing jeans to a service on a Sunday. I like dressing up though so that might be just me.

I work in a hospital so I wear scrubs. I kind of get jealous when I see desk workers all dressed up. Oh well, at least I'm comfortable!

I work in an office and I get jealous when I see hospital workers in scrubs and sneakers looking all comfortable. Smile
