My reply:

Seeing that Scripture only gives an account of Christ calling 4 fisherman disciples while they were working and Matthew while he was sitting at his tax collector's table, this isn't entirely correct. There's the account of Philip finding Nathaniel (Bartholomew). We never hear exactly where or when the others were called. And as Paul is included in the Apostles, this concept falls flat. Sad He was called while on his way to do great evil. I'm glad God can call anyone anywhere.

And then there's the story of Mary and Martha, and "Be still and know that I am God."

omgomgomgomgomgzzzzzooooommmmmmgggggg!!!! Whitewhine.com is hilarious! I had a friend who was spazzing the heck out a couple weeks ago about whether or not it would be "too much" to get her kid a limo for the kid's first b-day. Yeah ... um ... YA THINK?

*rolls eyes*

Friend's response:

I think the heart of the quote is more along the lines of not sitting around doing nothing. God uses those who are busy for Him. Not sure the person who said this is speaking of the "12 disciples" exclusively. Don't know for sure since I don't know the person. The quote touched my heart from the angle of being busy, serving.

My response:

I know. I guess I get irritated with preachers/teachers/writers who make these statements that sound good but are not accurate. Jesus actually reprimanded Martha for being busy when she should have been worshipping Him. There is a time and season for everything. I'm often jealous of those who can sit and worship while I pick up the slack. Sad

(Thanks, Persnickety!) Wink

Mommy2Kids, I'd be tempted to post THIS on her page:

38Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. 39And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word. 40But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. 41And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: 42But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. (Luke 10)

We must have been posting simultaneously. Smile

Great response, PW.

I am often bothered by the notion that God so desperately needs us to do everything for him. Is he not actually all-powerful? Are we really called to be worker bees buzzing around the hive? I just can't quite see it.

Just saw this on a Bob Jones associated FB page --
Quote:Bob Jones University is the most wonderful University I have ever visited. I have visited many. Any one who smears this University is living far far away from the Lord.

She VISITED? How about living there for six years? Maybe that would give her a different perspective.

And how DARE she make assumptions about other people's standing in Christ!!!! This makes me so mad!

She was probably there for Opportunity days. It's only a couple days, and all the school does is market the hell out of the place and make it look as good as possible to prospective students. Of course she loved it. I wouldn't be surprised if she heard a message regarding "smear campaigns" against BJU during the time she was there.

I saw this on a friend's wall. While this isn't fundy, it did remind me of those horrific altar calls where the evangelist would ask ANYONE who even wanted to PRAY for someone else to come down front.

Quote: For my friends who are going through some issues right now: Let's start a prayer avalanche. We all need prayers right now. If I don't see your name, I'll understand. May I ask my "FB Family" wherever you may be to kindly copy, paste and share this status for one hour to give a prayer of support to all those who have family problems, health struggles, worries and just need to know that someone cares. Do it for all of us for no one is immune. I hope to see this on the walls of all my friends just for moral support. I know some will!! I did it for a friend and you can too. Share some faith, love, and spiritual healing for all in need♥
