Should told him he would probably make the Fundamental Top 500.

He'd fit in well, along with the other 50,000 sites in the Fundamentalist Top 500. Big Grin

An IFB church's facebook page said this today:

Quote:We welcome you to come tomorrow at 9:30 for Sunday School for all ages. The adults will be hearing more in our series from Answers in Genesis' Ken Ham about how to keep young people from walking away from the truth by teaching them to trust God's word from the very beginning of Genesis.

How to KEEP young people from walking away? There's such a thing as free will. You can't GUARANTEE your children won't reject the faith.

Comments like this 1) keep fundy parents trusting their own efforts instead of the Holy Spirit, 2) cause them to feel guilt if their kids DO walk away because they wonder, "What did I fail to teach them?", 3) cause them to feel pride if their children stay faithful, and 4) make them judgmental toward other parents whose children turn away from Christ: "Well, if you'd only used the Ken Ham curriculum WE bought at the seminar, your kids would have turned out." (They might not say it out loud, but they often think it!)

It's about keeping people in fear. If you're honestly terrified your precious children will burn in hell if you don't obey, you'll obey no matter how insane it is.

PW I know you're speaking more of the mentality... But to be specific on this issue, I can't think of any better way to set up kids for a crisis of faith than to teach them that if the earth is more than 7000 years old, then the Bible is meaningless. The AIG material I was taught crumbled beneath the vast weight of evidence the earth is as old as it looks.

That's a good point, redbeardiam. I don't want my children to think that if they accept evolution, they can no longer be a believer in Christ. Sad

A fundy preacher posted on Facebook "Preached on Jesus this morning. It was good."

I was tempted to comment "Maybe you should try it more often", but that would be mean. Smile

A college friend started a ladies' group on FB and added me. Confused

She and I are at opposite ends of the fundy spectrum. Here is her post from this afternoon. I want to post something snarky, but she really is oblivious.

"Hope you all had a nice rest this Sunday afternoon and feeling refreshed to be in your places during Sunday evening church. May God bless your families as you begin a new week!"

My place this Sunday evening is on my couch watching the Simpsons' 500th episode.
