Fundies and Birth control - Tooktheredpill - 01-14-2011 02:15 PM

So, it seems that many times it's easy to identify a fundy family by how full the quiver is.

How many siblings do you have?

Thankfully, I only have two. Smile

My parents only had two children besides me. My mom would have liked a really large family, but she was frustrated with my father's highly explosive temper and didn't want more children to be influenced with his angry outbursts. That's what she tells me now. They did tell me that birth control was wrong when I decided to start taking pills. I know someone who had two children and then when they were nearly grown, decided that using birth control was sinful, stopped taking it, and had two more! It's funny to see their family pictures, because their two older children look like they could be the parents of the two younger siblings!

I only have 3 siblings. But then I wasn't raised fundy.

I'm one of seven. Used to hate that, but recently (having moved out now), it's wonderful! I love all my siblings, Fundy Children though they be Big Grin

This issue seems to go back and forth like a pendulum. At one time it was taught that artificial birth control was wrong...then around 'my time' it was apparently essential and now it seems to have gone back to 'its wrong' again.

One thing that I have never understood is why the 'Quiverfull' movement does not like Natural Family Planning?Huh I know Catholic families who practice this faithfully and while they might have six kids to my three they don't have children coming out of the woodwork! I mean come on...its working with nature. Or is it the fact that Catholics like it?RolleyesRolleyes

Five. Three younger sisters and two younger brothers. My parents were good baptists. Smile

I have two. My parents were mediocre Lutherans.

QF families believe that since children are a blessing, one should seek to acquire more and more of that blessing, often to gluttonous proportions. Since Natural Family Planning encourages sex during unfertile times, QF parents will try, knowingly or not, to do precisely the opposite!

My former IFB church was more like IFB lite until the very end of my time there, and I never heard about QF and other similar movements until recently. I met some [presumably] QF families in home school groups, but didn't know that the phenomenon had a name until I read about it later.

Edit: I have no siblings. My parents would have enjoyed another one or two, but as far as I know, they never had plans for a super-sized quiver.
