Is it just me or.. - notdrinkingthekoolaid - 08-09-2011 09:09 AM

Am I the only one that still gets totally thrown off when I run into a pastor while I'm going about my regular business?

I swear I turn into a bumbling idiot when I see a pastor at the grocery store...or starbucks (like I did this morning.) Our pastors are all very normal, regular people, but somehow I still revert to fundy twitching whenever I see one in a non church setting.

Tell me I'm not the only one...Big Grin

I had to do some adjusting when a close friend (he's like my brother) became the pastor of my church after the previous pastor retired. I am used to pastors having some sort of aloofness I guess. I had a hard time with it at first but it has gotten better, especially in the last six months or so.

He's not a fundy pastor by any stretch of the imagination. We go to movies, play video games (he's a trash talker) and sit around campfires.

Well, I sleep with my pastor so I can't really relate to this one! HeeHee!

It's sort of like being a kid and seeing your teacher outside of school. Not having a fundy background, I can't identify with the twitchies, but seeing someone outside of their usual domain can be disconcerting.

I would be if I still went to a fundy church, but our pastor is awesome. There's nothing that I do in lifestyle or whatnot that he would find inappropriate, so ... I can't think of any situation I could be in (where I wasn't doing something against my conscience, in which case I'd be embarrassed to run into anyone) in which I'd run into him and feel embarrassed or ashamed. He goes to movies with people in the congregation, reads and enjoys a lot of the same authors as I do (definitely not fundy-approved authors, I'll add), etc. He's like a normal member of the congregation, only kinder and gentler if that's possible (we have a great group of folks). He's like the dad of the church family ... we aren't scared of him, and I love that.

This is of course WILDLY different than our old church, where if I was wearing shorts or something equally mundane I'd have to hope I didn't run into another member of the church, let alone the pastor.

I'd have to be on the golf course or in a restaurant to run into my pastor.
(But seriously, folks, he's a great guy.)

HazelEyed--I really do like all the pastoral staff. Some I know better than others, but none of them are intimidating in the least as far as acting like they are better than us. Our teaching pastor is a couple years younger than me, has 2 little girls--one that I taught in 2 year old class, his wife teaches my youngest at church. They are very down to earth and completely normal, yet I still get all weird. I need to get over myself! lol

There are some other church members I avoid if I can! Our pastor is Joe Friendly, so I don't think it would bother me.
