  1. The local Christian book store sold books written by Catholics, “New Evangelical Liberals”, and others who disagreed with the mannogid. Solution: We should no longer shop at the local Christian bookstore EVER. This was based upon the Mannogid’s view of “Biblical Separation”.

It probably had a lot to do with the fact he planned to significantly expand the bookstore in the church foyer. Now the congregation could be “protected” from thought and beliefs contrary to the mannogid.

    1. It’s all information control. If you have no outside influences, nothing to cause you to question, and he can keep his empire together.

  2. This is why I have “Bible Burnout.” When I see Bible verses my eyes begin to glaze over.

  3. I just came back to re-read all these since I wasn’t here much yesterday at all. You know what strikes me as I read them all here in one place (most of them I have heard throughout my life) is that there is no limit to the crazy that is the IFB. Even though it is funny how ridiculous it is, it is overwhelming in a way. Ya know?

    1. I could not agree with you more. I never really realized how crazy the IFB party line could sound until I was explaining why I do and don’t do certain things to my new friends. Trying to defend it and seeing it in print really does drive home the level of absolute nuttiness that we lived with for so long.

  4. Pastor said before taking Tylenol, Advil, or anything, for anything, spend some serious time in prayer so God has the option of ‘showing His power.’ Basically, if you have a headache and you pop a couple Tylenol, before praying in submission to God, you’re subverting His will for your life…

    1. would that be “the perfect center of God’s will for your life?” or just some generic brand of god’s will? 😉

  5. I remember Tom Williams going on and on about the “fact” that people are only portrayed in the Bible as praying while standing, kneeling or prostrated on their face. So therefore it is unbiblical to pray while sitting.

And while lying on your back or squatting, I suppose.

    1. I did like Tom Williams as my favourite preacher for a while. He was very entertaining and to hear his preaching on evolution is hysterically funny. But this and one other thing about him bugs me to death. One time while he was at our old church in Michigan he attended the men’s prayer meeting Sunday nights before the service. He told all the men that the only proper way to talk to the Lord was on your knees. So all of them had to kneel through the whole prayer time and a lot of them were not in any condition to do that, including my husband. After that he had to stop attending the prayer meetings because Tom Williams had spoken the one time he was there and now they were gonna follow what he said. 👿

The other thing is that ever since his marriage to a woman young enough to be his daughter he likes to talk very graphically about sex. He had a marriage seminar for I think two or three nights and on the last night he talked so graphically that a lot of us were embarrassed. I wonder if he’s getting a bit senile in his old age! 😳

      1. I have heard that Tom Williams has become very explicit in his talk these days. I’m glad I haven’t heard him lately!

    2. There is also the verse “Pray without ceasing.” I guess that means I have to be on my knees all.day.long.

    3. Is it okay to pray while hanging upside down?
(That hasn’t come up lately, but I want to be ready, just in case.)

  6. Yesterday I could not think of anything. Today two things came from me. One pastor I had (HAC) said that a podium or plastic stand was unbiblical. He said that Ezra used a pulpit of wood, and anything else was sin.

He also said the the hymnals and bibles had to be in a certain order compared to the center of the building. I want to say he quoted something, but I can not remember what.

Of course he thought Jack Hyles was the greatest preacher ever. When I told him we were leaving, he aske me to listen to a sermon on tape that was the greatest ever, and would change my mind. When I sat down with the tape and my Bible, I never used the Bible, because he never referred to a verse. Just thirty minutes of ranting.

      1. It was probably an inflatable pulpit. Easier to carry when you’re hiking in the mountains.

    1. I know that I have pointed this out before but fundied Pulpits and pulpit furniture must be made of shittim wood.

The Fundie Pulpit is made of Bullshittim, it produces a loud splat sound when the M-O-g pounds on it… an effective audio inhancement to any good spiritually manipulative sermon.
The other furnature, especially the M-O-g’s throne chair, is made of Fullashittim. 😯

  7. I’ve heard people use David’s verses in Psalms about rising early to praise God to mean that one HAD to have devotions early in the morning to be spiritual.
Funny thing how they insisted on applying THOSE verses but somehow managed to ignore the imperative nature of this one: “Praise Him with the dance!” (Ps. 150:4)

    1. Yeah, I’ve heard that one more than once. I wonder if those preachers ever had to get up at 4:30am for work, and how well they could focus on reading anything that early. Or how that fit in with a third shift schedule.

Not only the dance, but stringed instruments and tambourines are also mentioned. Try getting those into most fundy churches.

  8. Leviticus 19:28 was somehow wangled to prohibit my getting my ears pierced as a teenager. (We’re talking one piercing, on the lobe.)

Oddly, the “appearance of evil” trope didn’t apply here, leaving me free to raid my mother’s jewelry box for her atrocious leftover 80s plastic clip-ons, if I so desired.

    1. My mom wasn’t even a church goer, but I was also prohibited from piercing my ears. She was afraid I would somehow get the earring caught on something and hurt my ears. So I got them done after I turned 18.

    2. I wasn’t allowed to pierce my ears because my grandmother stated that heathens in Africa put bones through their noses, and we don’t do what heathens do. Did it anyway with a safety pin and a whole lot of paper towels.

  9. Ba ha ha ha ha!

    Oh, where do I begin?

When I was growing up, my youth group leader (who is also my uncle) had some strange, strange ideas.

    1. Women should not wear red. Because red is the colour of a harlot, as in the Red Light District, and there is an ‘attire of a harlot.’ (proverbs 7:10)

    2. Culottes are more sensual than skirts and should not be worn. I won’t give you the example he gave. Lech lech lech.

    3. John the Baptist was Elijah, reincarnated. because ‘it is appointed unto man once to die, but after this, the judgment.’

    and as a corrolary,

    4. Babies that die before they reach the Age of Accountability do not go to heaven – or hell either. They go back into the soul-pool and get reborn.

    5. Women should not wear blazers that have artificial shoulder pads (i forget what they’re called). Ezekiel 13:18 – sewing “pillows to arm-holes.”

    6. You are responsible for the eternal soul of every person you rub shoulders with. Literally. Anyone you walk down the street, and bump into – it’s your fault if they go to Hell.

    7. The body is the Temple of the Lord. The Tabernacle had three courts, so therefore, you have three zones of physical contact.

    a. The Inner Court – touch on usually-exposed areas, like hands or arms. Those who know you can touch these.

    b. The Holy Place – places usually covered by clothing, not including sexual zones. Family and close friends can touch these.

    c. The Holy of Holies – sexual zones. Only one’s spouse, or occasionally doctors, can touch these. The doctors were permitted because there were men who took down the Tabernacle to cart it around, who were not themselves priests.

You can’t make this stuff up, people!

Although I’m pretty sure he did…

  10. I will search for the lost and bring back the strays. I will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak, but the sleek and the strong I will destroy. I will shepherd the flock with justice. Ez 34:16

I once had a fundy man-o-gawd preach an entire “sermon” on this verse. He said it was his job to somehow chase after, and punish the strays, and bind up those who were injured because the injured were obviously that way because they had left the The LORD in the first place. Ahmen?

He is one of the biggest brutes you would ever meet too. Of course he used that illustration about the shepherd breaking the lambs legs too. 😈

  11. I had some middle aged ladies in the church I went to when I was in my early 20’s tell me how the CCM I listened to was “bad.” A few weeks later I heard the same two ladies discussing their favorite country music star – forget who it was. I asked one of them “So you listen to country music?” The other said “That’s good music!” A few days later I was going out with my parents, and my father had the radio tuned to his favorite country station. A song came on about a man who was so drunk he fell off the wagon seat. I was thinking “Yep. Good music, all right.” 🙄
    Can anyone say double standard?

    1. I asked about this one time and was told that listening to CCM is a sin and listening to secular music is a sin. So, if you are going to sin, you might as well go ahead and make it worth it and listen to secular music rather than CCM. Seriously…a “church lady” told me that.

      1. hahahaha!!! I had someone tell me that too. Because it is better to be completely cold to God than “lukewarm”. Something about how God spits out lukewarm people or something like that… apparently there is a verse.
Does this principle also apply to Sex and drugs? or just rock n roll?

  12. Psalm 1:1 being used to support the thought of it being a sin to send your kids to public school.

However, it was somehow OK for the husband to be a teacher in one. 🙄

    1. Question: If someone came into the church and “scoffed” during the preaching, would that chair be permanently roped off as unfit?

  13. “…as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which the unlearned and unstable pervert, as also they do the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.” 2 Peter 3:16

I heard a speaker use this verse to defend the archaic language of the KJV, and condemned anyone who dared to read another version or even read an updated language version of the KJV, claiming that doing so would bring about our destruction. I just about threw my Bible at him.

If any part of the Bible is hard to understand, it should be because they are God’s words and He did say “my ways are higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts”, not because they are cloaked in archaic language that isn’t being used anymore.

    1. Someone told me that it didn’t matter if unsaved people didn’t understand the KJV, because Scriptural things are spiritually discerned. If they were saved, the Holy Spirit would enlighten them as to the Bible’s meaning. Why would I want unsaved people understanding the Bible anyway? 😯

I’ve discovered that I simply canNOT have a discussion with a KJV-O person.

  14. I taught at a fundy school. Flannel shirts were outlawed. Too many kids liked them. Must be worldly. And cowboy hats were bad. One lady in particular thought cowboys were satanic. I was afraid to ask her why at the time, but now I regret it.

    1. I live where there’s LOTS of cowboys. A younger, single lady in my church commented appreciatively once about the tight jeans the cowboys wear. Maybe the lady in your church thought cowboys were satanic because she was being tempted by tight cowboy buns in tight cowboy jeans? 😈

  15. Templewoman’s hubby Fallen-man:
My wife wanted me to read this, and I’m reluctant to say anything negative about any one religious group especially one that I was member of and still am currently. Some good friends and some good experiences its hard to fathom how everything blew up when we were serving God and trying to do right.

Is it bad to have a vision; I don’t think so because the Bible does “say” where no vision is the people perish. But, shouldn’t we have the same vision that Christ had, and wasn’t he clear when he told Peter “Feed my Sheep”. So, I believe this would first mean in a spiritual sense; but I also believe it would mean in a practical and physical sense due to the fact that in the Book of Acts distribution was made to all and no man had need. These two facts in the Bible I only say to make a point later after I share my families experience.

First the matter of tithing and offering; I’ve always had some reservations about tithing on the gross but I took the stand that if the Pastor’s wrong he’ll have to deal with God. But, then we had tithing taught on a back tithe when we weren’t saved “so we did”, then we had tithing on my Medical Benefits from work “so we did”, tithing on gifts “so we did”, and finally 12 years later we heard tithing on social security that our employer pays “and finally we didn’t. I called and discussed these teaching with my Pastor and the corresponding blessing on the offering that just didn’t seem to be paying off they way I kept hearing it. Guess what I was told: “I have soul liberty” Wow. You mean if I’m not persuaded in my own mind I don’t have to tithe and give offering they way you’re teaching. Plus I was told we can get prideful in our giving sometime expecting something in return.

That’s okay doesn’t really compare to the teaching of not quitting and not running from the pressure. And your not Holy and right with God if your not in church everytime the doors are open. So, Wednesday Night, Thursday Night Soul Winning, Friday Night Ministry (Addiction program my wife and I headed up for almost 10 years), Sunday morning and Sunday evening service all while both working full time jobs and supposedly raising our kids.

My wife left me, I became very suicidal, we are in further debt that when we started 10 years ago, and my Pastor said if I had the money I’d send you two to Marriage Counseling. All while telling me not to say quit when it all became overwhelming to us, but after opening our home to countless people and serving faithfully for 10 years there was nothing our Pastor could do financially or spiritually to put humpty dumpty and his wife back together again.

But God did reveal to me it was time to move on and maybe this was not the vision of God, but the vision of the Pastor. Some told me about loving my wife according to knowledge, and love her the way Christ loves the church giving honor unto the weaker vessel Thank God she’s home and were still together. Maybe were financially, spiritually, and physically broke.

But God is good, and I should and you should always listen to that still small voice and not to the Man in Charge. Because I have a Bible and a Holy Spirit also, and I just want to be a good husband, dad, and a friend to whoever might need one.

    1. It’s so hard to realize that those we thought were men of God might not have been leading us the right way. Praise God for His faithfulness and for the liberty He gives us.

I DO believe that a Christian’s desires should line up with Christ’s desires, but I do NOT think that that necessarily will look like what we were told in the IFB. I think it will be much more in line with Mt. 25:34-40 and Gal. 5:22-23.

God bless you as you refocus.

  16. At my IFB school, denim was considered evil because it was associated with the Hippie movement. They did eventually come around, though. In 1986 they declared that the Hippie movement was over and we were allowed to wear denim jackets.

    1. Oh, how “generous” and enlightened they were to do that… 🙄 🙄 🙄

    2. the funny thing is…a) the Hippie movement is not over – just visit Santa Cruz – it might not be as mainstream, but there are an awful lot of bead wearing smelly people on the left coast…b) Everyone on the planet thought the Hippie movement was over somewhere around the time ABBA became “popular” music.

  17. My wife reminded me of a couple. My HAC pastor was preaching on Job and started talking about Job’s second wife. When pointed out that Job only had one wife, he got miffed. Then later, he said he was joking and we didn’t get it. 🙄

Then there was the time he was telling a friend and fellow preacher that Jesus always wore purple, because he was a king, and purple was the royal color, therefore we had to wear a jacket and tie to preach. My friend went home, searched the Scriptures, found the only purple recorded was when they were mocking Jesus, and never came back.

  18. Thought of some more. (Must be the late night.)

The HAC pastor also was telling a man that the Old Testament, in one of the prophets, said that Lucifer had pipes in his body that made music when he breathed. That showed that he had power in music, so we should only listen to hymns. 😯 🙄

Then he continued and said that the Old Testament also talked about how Elijah and Enoch were in suspended animation, with tubes running to their orifices, ( 😯 😯 ) waiting to be the two witnesses in Revelation.

I was too intimidated to even ask where he got this from. At the time I was brainwashed into not questioning the man of gid. And I was ten years older than that man. 😥

  19. An otherwise truly wonderful, kick-butt, judo-doing, poor-person-adopting woman spent an afternoon calmly explaining to me, a 10 year old, that there were a bunch of people who live outside of Heaven, but around it. And they just . . . live there. Hanging out. Having little villages and stuff. Out somewhere wherever Heaven is.
I imagine the verse she had in mind was Revelation 22:14-15
“14Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

15For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.”

So I was left with this mental image of a bunch of villagers sort of . . . wandering around on some clouds, off in space. And deep confusion as to how on earth that would be fair, since God wouldn’t make people who had to just hang out on clouds outside of Heaven – how would they get the chance to know Jesus like we did here on earth? That would be totally unfair! So yeah, I just sort of nodded politely and decided she was a touch bonkers in this instance.

  20. I know I have mentioned this before, but it is so ludicrous and absurd it bears repeating. It may even be new for some of you.

Good ol’ R.B. during a tirade I wish I had the tape of, stated that four 10 hour work days were sinful, I think because it promoted laziness. I never bothered to point out that a biblical work week was six days, or any other flaws in his message. I pretty much turned him off in my head and haven’t bothered to go hear him since. He is a regular guest at my folks church.

    1. Wow. My husband works 16-18 hour days in summer, and 8-10 hours the rest of the year. Plus weekends every other week. What say you to that, RB? And how long does RB work? I despise pansies who diss on hard-working blue-collars like my husband.

  21. Many of the weird teachings you folks have mentioned I have also heard from IFB preachers or books written by them. I had forgotten about many of them. How sad that so much nonsense has been and will continue to be preached in the name of Christ. Utter human lunatic opinion in so many cases and or intentionally misrepresenting what the Bible really means. It leaves me mentally numb, that’s why I am out. 😥

  22. I love how “Harry Potter”, “Star Wars”, Stories of Merlin, and “The Lion,The Witch and the Wardrobe” were all preached against with a vengence because they portrayed “Witchcraft,” but Salvation came down to sincerely repeating the Sinners Prayer®.

  23. I had a fundy preacher tell me that exercising was a sin and that the only reason people do it is because they burn with lust. If you had energy and time to work out recreationally it was because you weren’t working at your job hard enough or spending enough time with God.

    1. I should also mention that this preacher was also severely obese and had had so many heart attacks over the years that he had to have a pacemaker put in. :-s

    2. When I was a very young and very judgmental person, I used to say that people should do physical work instead of “non-productive” exercise. But I never went so far as to say it was a sin exercise.
(By the way, I was thin and fairly fit back then.)

  24. Darrell,

I was thinking about the pic you used for this topic. I remember an old game called “Bibleopoly” I wonder what the MOG would say to playing that?

    1. I’ve heard of Bibleopoly but I’ve never actually seen it.

I do have Antimonopoly somewhere. Its interesting to play because there are two sets of rules. Monopolists have rules like regular monopoly and capitalists have a different set that allows them to build on single properties and such but they get lower rents. Now I kind of want to dig it out and take another look at it.

  25. Having low self esteem and feeling depressed and worthless was twisted into committing the sin of pride.

    1. So the cure for low self-esteem is to have even less respect for yourself?

Sort a homeopathic school of therapy, I guess.

  26. Now that I’m thinking about it, I’m also curious about the “Scriptural” rationale behind the school of thought that organ donation is a sin because it screws with the Rapture. I know I’ve heard that.

    Anybody remember this one?

    1. I think this has to do with the theory that we will be resurrected in the same physical bodies that we had in this life.
So, if you posthumously donate your heart, lungs, and liver, you’ll be missing those organs when the dead arise.

Some people argue against cremation for the same reason: No physical body, no resurrection.

I really hope that this isn’t true, because the average dead persons body is pretty much a broken-down, stinking mess, and I don’t want to be stuck with it for eternity.

If somebody does have some way of knowing that God can, say, grow flesh back on a long-dead skeleton, but can’t reconstruct a body from ashes or regrow a kidney, then I’d like to know what source of information tells them this.

      1. Back in the 60s there was a lurid “Left Behind” precursor called “666”, written (very poorly) by a guy called Salem Kirban. Guaranteed to corrupt eschatology for impressionable minds. I wonder how many hardcore fundies besides my mom devoured this book in church libraries in their childhood.

      2. Not to mention some poor believer at Ground Zero for the Big One.

Even as a deer in the headlights fundy, I figured a God that could create all of life, number hairs and care for sparrows and lilies ought to be able to reassemble a few bodies when He needed to.

    2. I remember hearing that it was a matter of stewardship. We are to be good stewards of our time, talents and treasures. The Pastor said this included our organs. In fact he said, “What if your heart gives someone the opportunity to keep living a life of sin and debauchery?”. Even then I remembered asking to myself, “What if it gives them another chance at life to do great things for God?”. Hmmm.

      1. I have a close relative who believes you shouldn’t be an organ donor because God gave you those organs so they’re His – how can you give them away to someone who may use them for evil? 😯

    3. This is an old post, but your comment brought a song to mind– “I Left My Heart in San Francisco…”

  27. Some of the strangest doctrines I’ve heard claimed as Biblical are not obscure or unusual. The most obovious example is the prediction of the Rapture, Armageddon, and the Tribulation. You can’t find these in the Bible unless you do a lot of jumping back and forth through the scriptures, and a lot of wildly speculative interpretation of metaphors and symbols. And nobody did find them in the bible for the first roughly 1800 years of Christianity. Yet many, many people believe that the Bible spells it all out in literal terms.

Some less earth-shaking examples would be the prohibitions (in some churches) on alcohol, tobacco, and dancing. Not that there aren’t good reasons to abstain from alcohol and tobacco (I can’t think of a good reason not to dance), but nothing in the scriptures says not to drink alcohol in moderation, tobacco is not mentioned at all (of course), and dancing is mentioned in favorable terms in several places in the Bible.

    1. I can think of a good reason for me not dancing. Not light enough on other people’s feet.

  28. True men of God should only wear boxers, never tidy whities. And boxer briefs are just compromise.

    Exodus 28:4

42 And thou shalt make them linen breeches to cover their nakedness; from the loins even unto the thighs they shall reach:

  29. Hello! I am slightly new to this sight. Have been reading for some time, but have only commented once.
The 2 biggest things I can think of are:
    1) I was told children in the Bible were mauled by she-bears because they spoke against the mog. This was, of course, to produce fear at a young age about disagreeing with the mog.
    2) If you were “saved” using another per-version of the Bible you are not saved. Only the 1611 is the incorruptable seed.
Wow, even typing this out made me want to vomit.
    Fundy PTSD!!!

    1. I think you’re right. I told my husband a few weeks ago that I was having flashbacks and bad dreams about the former church and pastor and I thought it was a form of PTSD. He was skeptical, it was only a church after all. Since I’ve never been in the usual kind of stressful situation that would bring on PTSD it did seem extreme. But I used to dread Sundays. From Friday all the way til I went to bed Sunday night I was having panic attacks. I did not want to go to that place. When we finally left I was finally able to relax. I don’t have this problem in the new church. I look forward to church now. I wish I could stop having flashbacks and bad dreams involving that place though. 🙁

      1. Macushlalondra, my IFB survivor friends and I used to joke about having PTSD, until one day we realized all of us, like you mentioned would have panic attacks when Sundays (or Wednesdays) would roll around. Many of us had eating disorders, nervous binges, etc. and many of us showed complete signs of PTSD. Now, we don’t think it’s silly or ridiculous…it’s PTSD and we can support each other as well as seek outside help depending on the level of PTSD. I’ve gone to counseling and am part of groups, workshops… anything I can find really. It’s an ongoing healing & recovery. Now, I can recognize my triggers and take action to come out of the trauma vs. get lost or feel drowned in it & most healing of all, separate truth from the lies.
I’m so sorry for what you experienced. I empathize with you! My husband wasn’t raised in fundamentalist church so he doesn’t understand, but it has helped us tremendously to do counseling, workshops & read books together. I hope you can receive the healing you need from your traumatic experiences. <3 <3 <3

  30. I have so many!!!!
    1) The streets of gold in heaven are so gold they are actually clear. Apparently when gold is purified it is clear, not yellow. The impurities are yellow. -my old children’s church pastor
    2) The reason that God doesn’t want you listen to rock music is because it is unhealthy for you. The beat of rock music goes against the natural rhythm of your heart beat. – my old children’s church pastor
    3) There is a verse in revelations about satan having a long neck (like a guitar) and a drum-like belly. This is one major reason we dont listen to rock music. -same dude
    4) Women should always be soft spoken, and not talk with a volume above a soft whisper. It says so in the Bible- some chaperone woman at TeenPact (Any Teenpacters??? Aynone?)
    5) When Jesus drank “wine” it actually meant grape juice- every fundy anywhere
    6) Women can’t wear pants because a woman should not wear a man’s apparel – also any fundy anywhere… This just reminds me of life of Brian… where the women are buying the beards to wear to the stoning… lol…

  31. How about because we are supposed to tithe off of all our increase then we are actually supposed to “tithe” if our time as well (as each day is considered an increase). If you’re not praying and reading your bible for 2hrs and 40min a day then youre being a bad steward!

  32. Exodus 28:42 ESV

    You shall make for them linen undergarments to cover their naked flesh. They shall reach from the hips to the thighs;

You must only wear boxers. No tighty whities. Boxer briefs are just compromise.

  33. The most shocking thing I ever heard was when an extreme fundy kid in college told a friend of mine that he was a good guy but was never going to be used for God fully because he didn’t part his hair to the side. (mind you, my friend had naturally very curly hair and wore it short with no part). His defense for this opinion was that “Jesus parted his hair.” no verses, just an assumed thing.
I had spiked hair, and the kid never talked to me once in college. Wonder why?

    1. It was shocking to me because my fundy background was sort-of moderate. They stayed away from HAC circles and were more with MBBC-type circles. So I grew up with all the crazy stuff on movie theaters, ccm, women’s pants, etc. and less of the KJV-O and crazy conspiracy theories.
When I went to college though, I tried out a church that preached at women to wear head coverings and men to not wear shorts. Left after a couple weeks. But nothing compared to the logic of “Jesus parted his hair”

And I know where that conclusion comes from too. Its circular. They define hair as “worldly” or “unworldly” first, and of course Jesus wouldn’t have anything worldly, therefore Jesus had unworldly hair and therefore anything that is not like Jesus is worldly.

  34. While ministering in an extreme fundy cult church these are a few of the rules…..
*women were NOT allowed to wear pajama pants, even in their home
*No flip flops or opened toed shoes
    *No tanning
    *No coloring your hair
    *No shimmering make-up
    *No colored nail polish
*No writing or images were allowed on clothing
*No silk, satin, or lace materials were allowed to be worn
    *No denim at church, EVER
    *No uneven hem line
    *No slits in your skirt
*No eating at any restaurant that served alcohol or McDonalds
    *No Southern Gospel Music allowed
*No holding a microphone in your hand on the platform
*No removing your suit coat while on the platform
*Don’t ever call the platform a “stage”
*No drinking root beer from a bottle that resembles a beer bottle
*women weren’t allowed to speak up in church, thats what your husband is for
*women weren’t allowed to play sports
Well that just names a few….. and they would twist some scripture to backup every single one of those ridiculous rules.

    1. *no strong scented deodorant or cologne
      *no spiked hair for men
*All babies must follow the same dress code rules
      *women must always wear pantyhose
      Remembered a few more, lol

  35. I had someone today use 1 Timothy 2.11-12 to try and tell me women shouldn’t vote because they are usurping the authority from men.

  36. Is it sinful to sleep, er completely unclothed ? I do, except when the weather gets really cold? (then I may wear pjama pants and a singlet) More comfortable that way. Is there a scriptural guideline for male nightwear. I do not want God to get angry at me.

  37. I remember reading an article on a christian website which condemed tattoos. They said a christian should not “print amarks upon you”. Fair enough, but they went further and claimed that writing a note on your hand, even a reminder or a telephone number, is “printing marks on you” and therefore sinful…. I wish I could find that article and post a link. That is a very special kind of crazy.

    1. That is how I was raised. My dad would get so upset if he caught us writing on our hands. (my sister used to write “it’ll be okay” on hers, often on church days. )

  38. I would like feed back on this verse 1 Corinthians 9:22 “To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some.” I have wondered for a long time why I never really heard this verse taught on. Once I started to back away from the IFB bubble I started realizing that so many times they did not take the scriptures in a literal meaning……Why? I am thinking that this verse means that we should adapt to our surroundings as much as we can, of course not joining in on sinful behavior but that we just need to be as real as real can be….transparent?
