  1. My greek nt still going strong, the king james scholars they are dead. Rolls eyes hopefully iam in the top five.

    1. Spot the fallacy here, students:

“This liberal theologian is dead now, but King James is … alive?”
      โ“

The Gnostic Gospels are still around, too. What do you think about that, J.T. Baptist? ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

  2. After listening to this man pontificate his doctrinal views in rhyme, I can’t help but wonder if the misspelling of the word “Babtist” was intentional.

    1. Seriously, in what other word is ‘p’ pronounced like ‘b’? ๐Ÿ™„

      Anyone? Bueller?

      1. In many places deep in the American South. Lots of them will leave off the “t” as well.

    1. They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen.

And we all know what happened in Romans 1 after they did that… ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

  3. This guy’s a fairly good blues singer. As a friend of mine says, “If you’re gonna turn bad theology into verse, at least put it to decent music.”

      1. No crap! My church recently sang “Constantly Abiding,” which has some horrible theology in it. At least they pointed that out during the interlude, but I’d rather that we’d not sung it at all.

        1. Ok, I give up. I can usually spot bad theology in a song. What’s wrong with “Constantly Abiding”?

        2. The lyrics are bad enough, but the refrain sounds like a rallying song that could be sung at a football game. Picture it sung to the accompaniment of a drum and bugle corps and you’ll see what I mean.

  4. Seriously old school power point work…would have been better if he used an overhead projector though, maybe that would be too edgy.

The part of fundyland I am from would have a serious problem with using the blues for such a purpose. Even Sutherin Gospel was really not appropriate. I also noticed that in one place there it appears that the KJV was wearing a Klan hat…and of course parties to burn down religious institutions…I think we know what club the author belongs too. Making his use of Blues even more nonsensical.

I thought the BJU – Liberal slide was going to make the whole thing get at FTW from me, but talking about burning it down with gasoline and matches sort of ruined it.

Also, I am fairly certain that “The King James” is dead…from Syphilis if I remember correctly…must have forgotten to get the “exit only” tattoo for a tramp stamp.

And maybe a minor technical issue, but I think the line “its been around almost 400 years” would have been better both for phrasing and clarity if it had read “its been around almost 4 centuries”

Sorry, still have yet to see anyone top “KJV Hillbillies” – and ok, thats perhaps because its a parody, but… ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

  5. it’s not a spoof?? I heard the guitar and was sure it had to be a spoof, there’s, like, rhythm to the song.

  6. Just like so many of these poorly done songs, I had trouble making out the words. But it’s wrong to want to burn a place to the ground no matter how much you may disagree with it… just like those who burn down abortion clinics. ๐Ÿ™

    1. I don’t like the song, but I haven’t heard of anyone burning down an abortion/murder clinic in an awful long time.

      1. January 1, 2012, in Pensacola, Florida, actually. There were two in 2007, as well as a bomb that didn’t go off because of a faulty detonator. So, not so long ago.

        1. Renee, Macushla, Pay no attention to the little, odd fellow behind the curtain, he’s been here so long he actually thinks he owns the joint!

  7. Once when I was away at college our pastor at home started on his rant about the adult bookstore that was a few blocks away from the church, and he said, “Someone ought to BURN THAT PLACE TO THE GROUND.” And some crazy guy in the church went in there and tried to do just that. Unfortunately he was pouring out the gasoline as there were still employees in there and they called the cops before he got the job done. I wasn’t there so I am not sure how he ended up hurting himself, he had to pay some fines, and be in the hospital, but lo and behold, the very next semester, crazy guy was there at Hyles Anderson to study with us. I think the church sent him there on a scholarship to get him gone.

    1. I REMEMBER HIM. I can even see him in my mind. Not only that, I remember the idiots who thought he was a great guy for doing it. He had crazy eyes, though. ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

      1. Yeah, he was sort of a hero there for doing that. I remember Jack Hyles brought him up on the stage in chapel and showed him off… laughing about it like he had done some great thing. All I could think of was, “He is still crazy, ya know.”

      2. Wow. If you try to set fire to a place while it has people in it, that’s not just arson, it’s attemped murder. And Hyles approved?

        1. Not just approved. Aplauded. He treated him like some sort of celebrity and told us he was courageous and that we needed more people willing to DO something for the Lord. And laughed about it.

        2. Hyles approved of it?! Oh. my. God. that is very much not funny, what if someone gets killed? could be a relative, my daughter worked at Hooters once. Now she has her roots deeply into fundyland. I’m not sure sure what is worse, actually. Anyway, that’s a rabbit trail true to the best of fundy preachers. Not that hooters is adults only.
Anyhow, today 11 years ago Hyles died. I have HAC on my facebook. They had a special memorial chapel or something at the college.
My first “pastor” wanted to stick the gays back into the closet (when they “come out of the closet”), and strike a match. We called him on it after the service, but he didn’t budge. Another man of principles. His church folded, years after we left.

        3. The Adult Book Store and its employees should have sued the crap out of the Hyles empire for that one!! And I am no fan of Adult Book Stores, they creep me out but that was just completely and utterly irresponsible of Hyles to say it in the first place and then to tout it as a good thingโ€ฆ Wow. ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

        4. And just for the sake of perfect clarity, Hyles wasn’t the one who suggested it, it was one of his off-shoot pastors (of my home church) who said it and then one of HIS followers did it and then Hyles applauded it from the safe distance of three degrees of seperation.

      3. Was his name Marty? Or Martin? Something like that I think. I am not good with names (after 35 years) but I think that was it. I bet my sister would know.

      1. I’m much more concerned about the murders legally taking place “inside” the abortion mill, than I am of some nut trying to burn one of these places of death down, or another nut “Hyles” of approving of the first nut.

Frankly burning down one of these death-dealing facilities is actually minor compared to what is legally allowed to go inside.

At least that’s the way I see it.

  8. Un-fundy music to support a fundy viewpoint. It’s the beginning of a slippery slope. Must be a new convert or something. ๐Ÿ˜•

  9. Wow that is some amazing logic by this guy. Two guys who put together the text for modern translations…because these mortals died and the KJV didn’t clearly that means that the KJV is the best text around. I mean clearly it does right? Never mind that the people who wrote the KJV are also dead. I mean it just doesn’t even make sense.

But I did get a giant giggle out of calling BJU liberal. Oh my word, this guy is using the guitar with a lilting beat to it. BJU would call you a liberal as much as you call them one. I call that a tie and the epitome of irony if you ask me.

  10. If this is not a parody then it not worth even calling stupid. Sheesh, somedays I’m just embarrased to be a people. And I can honestly say I ain’t never been no Babtist.

  11. I think maybe he thought he was Dimitri Martin or something with the homemade illustrations and such. Except a few HUGE differences, not the least being that Dimitri has talent.

  12. If you think Bob Jones University is liberal, you might be a Fundy.

Who am I kidding? If you think that, you’re a raving lunatic.

  13. Complete non sequitur, but has there been a post yet on _Pride and Prejudice_? From my own observation, there seems to be a P&P-veneration cult among many circles of fundy teen girls (with special emphasis on the 1995 BBC adaptation).

    1. P&P was a big deal way back when *I* was a fundy teenager over 40 years ago. I don’t know if it has been popular consistently since then or if it is making a comeback with the fundies, but it has definately made a comeback in the “real world” in the form of movies, videos mini-series, spinoff stories about Jane Austin, P&P and Zombies, etc. I kindof think it is more than just the fundies who love P&P.

    2. Having suffered most of the way through Jane Austen I heartily agree with Mark Twain:
“I haven’t any right to criticise books, and I don’t do it except when I hate them. I often want to criticise Jane Austen, but her books madden me so that I can’t conceal my frenzy from the reader; and therefore I have to stop every time I begin. Everytime I read ‘Pride and Prejudice’ I want to dig her up and beat her over the skull with her own shin-bone.”

    3. I know it’s off-topic from today’s blog, but having left Fundyville long before it was first aired, I am a HUGE fan of the BBC P&P with Colin Firth playing Darcy. *sigh* IMO it’s the best chick flick ever made. I think it appeals to fundy girls because it’s romantic yet would “check” for Bible college viewing. There are however some low cut dresses here and there ๐Ÿ˜ฏ . BUT – absolutely no sex, and the kiss only happens after the wedding! This movie is a favorite among women of all religious persuasions. It’s just that good. It has the drama, the romantic tension and subtle humor that most females love. That’s why Jane Austen’s work survives. I love Mark Twain too. He’s a guy though, so he just doesn’t get it ๐Ÿ˜‰

      1. Ok well now you guys brought this up. I absolutely LOVE P&P both the book and the 1995 BBC adaptation. The 2005 one doesn’t cut it for me, it’s too dark for some reason. I absolutely loved Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle, they were great. The whole show is fantastic. I can watch it over and over again. But I never associated it with Fundyville, in fact I can think of several things in it that the fundies would criticize, which is of course what they do best. The characters actually danced. What little of church and religion we find is encompassed in the likes of Mr. Collins who was an Anglican clergyman, hardly Fundy. He was a sanctimonious prig though, that the fundies would well approve of.

They would have been all over the situation with Lydia eloping with Mr. Wickham, and the subsequent consequences of her being “ruined” because she had slept with a man she wasn’t married to and what that meant for the whole family.

That’s funny, I never associated my love of P&P with having been Fundy, since there is no plan of salvation in it. The fact that the one kiss occurs after the wedding though, and that it appears Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy never even held hands, the Fundies would approve of that. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Colin Firth was so good looking in this, so much like Quentin on Dark Shadows. Sigh…. ๐Ÿ˜‰

        1. That’s right! How could I forget the dancing! Maybe they fast forward that part. There’s card playing too. ๐Ÿ˜ฏ All this talk about it, I’m due for another viewing (probably my 24th time, lol). I agree, the 2005 version didn’t cut it for me, either. My dearest, loveliest Elizabeth!!! Gotta get my fix!

      2. I think we were so enamored of Colin Firth because we weren’t allowed to get to know any _real_ boys. ๐Ÿ˜›

  14. How can this guy be a fundy and want to burn down BJU? He’s moved past Bible version intolerance to plain terrorism. Using that logic, he’d need to burn down pretty much most fundy colleges. I know a few that also sneak in other versions ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

  15. I know the guy signing this song…it’s pretty real. I don’t think he wants to burn anything to the ground but he is strait crazy over the KJV.

This is a sad example of how destructive KJV onlyism can be to a persons spiritual life.

    1. If you want modern bibles that don’t agree with each other that’s on you.

  16. Every time I hear/see one of these things, I remember when I was in a place where everyone of us thought, “How cool is that.” Now, it triggers a migraine.

    1. Well, I hear the YouTube video of a guy singing about the greatness of the NRSV is still going strong, so that just proves the KJV is a false version. ๐Ÿ™„

  17. Why post something on youtube then when people actually begin watching the stupid thing you take it down.

It like saying I am so passionate about the KJV that I will burn BJU down to the ground over it but oh crap…I don’t want people to see this video saying I want to burn BJU down for the sake of the KJV.

      1. it’s running across facebook. He announced it at a employee meeting tonight that he is retiring at the end of this school year and naming Dr Troy Shoemaker as the next pres. Can’t find the source yet.

        1. If Dr. Horton does finally step down and the rumor mill is accurate then I’d like to see Dr. Mullinex’s look on his face when Horton named the other guy…he probably ran out of the room crying.

  18. It’s on the “You know you went to PCC group” and I’ve seen several friends posting it too.

  19. Does anyone remember a crazy song they sang at a pastor’s school one year (i can’t remember the year, but around 1998) I *think* it went like this…”it’s still the king james bible, that saves from sin…” it was a remake of “it’s still the blood”. None of my friends remember ANYthing like that, so i’am wondering if i’am totally making it up in my mind?? This was also the year they toted a HUGE gold and black kjv down the center isle along along with the ark of the covenant and other things. It was so long ago. and so awful!

    1. I consider myself an Anglophile, and while I love the language of Shakespeare (so, yes, of the KJV), I recognize idolatry for what it is, at least in this case! ๐Ÿ˜‰ You may have a point, though. OTOH, there is something that appeals to the inert mind in that old stale idea of, “Change is BAD,” and fundies play on that old stale idea almost more than anything else they do to their followers. ๐Ÿ‘ฟ

    2. No chance.

Advocates of the Authorised Version in England are typically sober minded, thoughtful people.

Also the KJV/KJB terminology is itself idiosyncratically American and very unEnglish.
Not to mention the KJVonlyism stuff.

  20. Well, when people talk about “burning places to the ground”, this song comes to mind http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxgeSv88c2w&ob=av3e

Nothing like a little Nickleback rocking out. Yes I’m getting old but they still put on a great show. Seen them twice in concert and they are impressive live (not that I am biased or anything)

Its amazing how the fundies talk about love all the time, yet they enjoy nothing more than a good fight to get the love flowing. ๐Ÿ‘ฟ

      1. YES!!!!
There was this episode of the SyFy series Eureka where people were acting out things that they heard in songs due to post-hypnotic suggestion. This one guy wanted to get the attention of this one woman who had just recently bought a house, and this song was the last thing he had just heard. Didn’t end well. Good thing she wasn’t anywhere near the house at the time! ๐Ÿ˜†
