  1. “There’s Christian rock. There’s Christian country. There’s Christian rap….and that’s not bein’ produced by the King James Bible.”

    Spit take.

    1. It’s hard to argue with that.
No matter how long you look at a King James Version Bible, it isn’t likely to make a sound, let alone any music.

  2. It is sad how this preacher (Isn’t gluttony a SIN??)thinks he knows exactly what Jesus thinks about music, yet the preacher conveniently forgets about these verses:
2 Samuel 6:5 David and the whole house of Israel were celebrating with all their might before the LORD, with songs [d] and with harps, lyres, tambourines, sistrums and cymbals.
    2 Samuel 6:14
David, wearing a linen ephod, danced before the LORD with all his might,
    Psalm 150
3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
praise him with the harp and lyre,

4 praise him with tambourine and dancing,
praise him with the strings and flute,

5 praise him with the clash of cymbals,
    praise him with resounding cymbals.

6 Let everything that has breath praise the LORD.
    Praise the LORD.

  3. “TWO FISHES AND FIVE LOAVES!!! TWO FISHES AND FIVE LOAVES!!!!”
Hhahah!! This guy always cracks me up…

“They just got weaned off a dill pickle”
    ………. 😐

At the comment Jordan made, when I heard that, I literally burst out in laughter! It’s been awhile!

    But yeah…wow.

  4. Darrell, I hate it when you post clips from Youtube. You’re only showing what a complete unregenerate you are because everyone knows Youtube is worldly and using it is association with the world which makes you a compromiser and fit to be disciplined, smitten with boils, and separated from (twice).

That, and Youtube’s blocked on the campus by the sanctified filter of the college I live at. [inane muttering]

  5. “Some long-haired, sissy looking guy…”
Um. O-K… Seeing one, not all worship leader guys are long-haired. And two, those that are, are usually about twice as built as that dude is.
    Ok. I’m done now.

  6. You know, you laugh about the KJV thing but wasn’t there a post a while back about music pulled directly from the (KJV) Psalms a while back?

  7. Mounty, I remember that one. It was a FWOTW. The pastor claimed his daughters had deciphered music from the Psalms, claiming it was “the music you will hear in heaven.”

  8. One certainly doesn’t need to own a KJV to see that modern praise music is a pretty embarrassing spectacle for anyone with a semblance of taste. But yeah, these vids are amusing.

  9. the double standard here is he complains that people aren’t excited like that when the “preachin'” begins. So really it’s just choosing when to get crazy and when to be solemn -I doubt either of those men would mind if someone ran around an aisle during one of their sermons. Funny thing, I’ve not heard one ‘new evangelical’ (or anyone outside fundyland for that matter), make fun of those fundies who run aisles and wave hankies and stand on pulpits (though I’m sure it’s happened). Yet it’s all too often fundies are making fun of the emotional behavior of those with whom they disagree. Silly.

  10. These “messages” are as edifying as an Ex-Lax. I remember a whole series of “preaching” about the evils of rock-n-roll from a preacher from North Carolina many years ago. This same preacher has had two divorces (while in the pulpit) and was accused of “inappropriate behavior” with a young lady (under 18). He started another church and is still behind the pulpit. Yes, I find fault with his transgressions (obviously unrepentant behavior) but I find more fault with the people who keep blindly supporting and making idols out of these stooges. No wonder the world laughs at our Savior, how can they take anything serious with junk like this!

  11. What happened to the good ol’ “Another One Bites the Dust” played backwards? That was some preaching!

Going to heck in a handbasket if we forget the real issues of 1979!!

  12. Face it fundies, emotions are bad. Bad, bad, bad…get them under control so that you can worship God as you should. The Devil created emotions so kill them or lose your soul.

  13. Two words for these dudes:

    1) Knucklehead!

    2) Diet!

    And one other suggestion:

Read that Bible you wave around.

  14. This is osme of the saddest unanointed preaching possible – they are not like the sons of Isaachar who understood the times, these are men who are preaching opinion not revelation. Sadder still, there will be those who follow them. God is so big, but preachers like this keep Him small.

  15. If you enjoyed this video you should watch the one on the KJV…good stuff.

I was told yesterday, when I said I prefer a more contemporary church, that there was a pastor who started using contemporary music in his church and it moved everyone’s flesh and the pastor had an affair. All because of contemporary music.

  16. “All because of contemporary music.”

Precisely. Nothing whatsoever to do with lust, choice, or fallible human nature.

All of which points up the kind of numinous reductivism that a lot of fundies seem to subscribe to. It borders on superstition of the witchcraft variety, thinking that certain totems have a weird power that will, inevitably, achieve a particular result regardless of human agency.

  17. I’ve noticed that fundie preachers love to preach about what they are against, vs. the good news about the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

When I read my Bible, I read that we are to live a life of humility and service in imitation of Christ. My Bible says that Jesus commands “love one another”. My Bible preaches about the virtues of faith, hope and charity.

My Bible doesn’t have a word about “worldly music” in it.

  18. @Jordan

Thank you for saying “numinous reductivism .” I am actually smarter for having read that as I had to go look up what it meant. 🙂

  19. Fundies have a pre conceived idea of what is right and what is wrong for just about everything. They have no need to study the Word of God and actually have a Biblical understanding about music. In their way of thinking they persoanlly don’t like it so therefore God doesn’t either.
They wave their KJV Bible around, read a verse or two, take them out of context and then say, “See, it’s wrong!” The crowd goes wild, shouts out Amen and everyone feels better about themselves because, unlike the rest of us, they are part of the “true church”. After all Jesus called him John the Baptist not John the Methodist, or John the non-denominational. Therefore “approved’ independant Baptists have all the answers.
Hmm, I don’t remember reading that in my KJV Bible. Oh wait, my former fundie pastor told me we don’t just get doctrine from the Bible we also get it from Traditions and reasonings of men.

  20. Good point, Morgan: “I’ve noticed that fundie preachers love to preach about what they are against, vs. the good news about the saving grace of Jesus Christ.”

Preaching like this gets everyone excited because the faithful members all agree with the pastor anyway. They can pride themselves about being in the holy huddle and the holy separated church, while these other churches are so worldly.

All of this leads to pride in one’s doctrinal stands and positions on these external issues and makes following Jesus a matter of what music you listen to (only). The gospel is for the bums who visit the church and not something that the members are expected to live by throughout the week.

It’s all really sad. Yet when seen on Youtube, it is funny too….

  21. On the one hand it is funny watching these self-righteous, self-anointed men of god (and I meant to use a lowercase “g” for the god of their imagination) get up in front of THEIR flock and program them with opinion and fallacious arguments. the real fun is to listen to guys like this and then find the fallacy. (here is a link that gives you a list you can use to find the fallacy:
    http://www.don-lindsay-archive.org/skeptic/arguments.html#authority)

On the other hand it makes me angry and sad that men such as this are representatives of God in the eyes of so many people. and their sheeple blindly follow their every move (that is cult activity). Where in any of theise churches is there any practice of the priesthood of every believer??? Only one gift is allowed top be exercised and that is only by the “full-time, anointed, man of god”, the local Pope, and he will not and cannot allow anyone to challenge his authority. Grrrrrr.

  22. You are right Jordan and I wanted to bring up all of those points, but I don’t like arguing with my dad. 🙂 However, I did drop the “Didn’t Hyles have an affair?” bomb and wow did that make him angry…

  23. “moved everyone’s flesh ”

    LOL, that sounds so…disgusting!

It is amazing how much is interpreted as God’s will. So much of what is preached from the pulpit is man’s own dislikes or prejudices, stated as what God is against. I also find it amazing that on one hand, people in the church (and the pastors preaching) have this sense that there are some forces at work that can control people’s actions without them realizing it. But, on the other hand, if magic or miracles are talked about, such as a Catholic seeing the Virgin Mary or anything like that, it’s dismissed as absolutely crazy. There is this dual world where magic forces exist, but at the same time they don’t. Selective “magic”, I guess.

  24. “Hmm, I don’t remember reading that in my KJV Bible. Oh wait, my former fundie pastor told me we don’t just get doctrine from the Bible we also get it from Traditions and reasonings of men.”
    Whoa! Scary thought.

“I’ve noticed that fundie preachers love to preach about what they are against, vs. the good news about the saving grace of Jesus Christ.”
The fundy church I somewhat recently got out of held to the fact that they, quote “We preach the great news of the Gospel every Sunday!” (something like that at least)
Funny…unless you consider ranting during the entire “sermon”, and then throwing in at the invitation “Now if you don’t know the Lord Jesus as your personal Savior, we encourage you to come down, and someone can talk to you about it and lead you to the Lord.”
Yeah. Throwing it in at the last second, not even mentioning it until then, assuming all the non-believing visitors will know completely what they’re talking about. Right…

(I have a feeling that my last point could be a SFL post…though I don’t know what you would call it.)

  25. Nathan: “Throwing it in at the last second, not even mentioning it until then, assuming all the non-believing visitors will know completely what they’re talking about. ”

Yes!! And the thing about that is Joel Osteen does the SAME THING after each of his “sermons” (although I prefer pep talks), and yet virtually all fundies hate him!

  26. See now this is what I remember growing up in Fundamentalism. Several posts ago, the idea was that fundies wanted us to be happy or joyful or whatever. This view of stoic Christianity where emotion was forbidden is what I remember most. I guess perhaps as a youngster memory can be selective…that or I was a big fan of Vulcans growing up.

  27. The other week in the ministerial class at Bob Jones, Dr. Bob III said we “don’t need a biblical reason to separate.”

  28. Personally, I like to keep my sacred apart from my secular. And I like to keep my
“sacred” syncopation seperalte from my “secular”syncopation. Think :Frank Garlock!

  29. I like to keep my sacred and my secular separated also. On my hard disk, I have different folders for my music from JS Bach and Iron Maiden. ; )

  30. As a matter of fact I was reminded precisely why I left IFB churches and now attend a Presbyterian church.

  31. @That, and Youtube’s blocked on the campus by the sanctified filter of the college I live at. [inane muttering]”

Just a suggestion, type the words “proxy server” into Google. Enjoy. You should be able to have unfettered access to Youtube with a proxy server.
